Advice regarding what parts to buy on new system.

I am in the process of building a new system.

I have everything except the Motherboard, CPU, Video Card.

What I need is some advice regarding what Motherboard you would recommend and why.. as well as info on whether or not the brand new PowerSupply I have (got for free) will be sufficient.

    Specs so far..

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W

    XFX PVT88GYDD4 GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported

    OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

    LG Dual Layer DVD Burner

    Seagate 500GB SATA HD.

The PSU I got for free is an Antec SmartPower 500Watt Modular PSU.
Is this sufficient? or should I spend the $100 + on a better one?

Secondly given the above specs and the fact that I would like to be able to easily go to DDR3 and Sli in the future and would prefer solid state capicitors (had problems with caps in the past.. I'll try to post some screenshots that will show why later) what motherboard would you recommend?

Well, that PSU is fine and maybe could be upgraded in a few months, unless you want the best results but is isn't needed imo

but it will do its wear and tear.

The graphics you might get is good

But i think the 8800 GT is cheaper, and does a just as good as job

The PSU is okay for your needs, I don't really like Antec PSUs but it's pretty decent.

If you want a good motherboard get this :
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136043
Because it's a very solid motherboard, and has a lot of BIOS options if you want to overclock your E8400. You can't get anything better than this DFI at that money.

Also, instead of the 8800GTS 512 MB I would suggest you get a PNY 9800GTX :
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133219

or if you don't want to spend that much money, you can go for a 8800GT.

hmmm well the OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) is a good price, i have that ram and i got that on sale, works good and not to expensive. i say go with a 8800 gt, or the new 9600 card if you have the money, i have the nividia 8800 gt card and i love it, it was cheap and goo performance. the gts is more money, and idk if its even better, the gt is way good for its price, and it will help you save money

Get an 8800GT or 3870 instead, and only get 2 gigs unless you plan on using a 64bit OS, also, never use a free PSU, especially if it's only 500 watts.

This is what I have and it's fan-fucking-tastic

Whats even more fantastic is if Itch bought an liquid cooling system like one of these.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103029. Nice and cool is the way to go if Itch wanted to overclock. Though thats only if he wanted the hassle of installing it.

I got the ram as trade for helping a friend setup his Wireless (new still un-opened.) So I'm not spending any money on the ram.

As for the Video card I'm still up in the air on that one.. I don't want to spend much more than that. But wanted to go as high as I could afford to.

Yes I'm building it myself.. as I have with the last 3 computers I've had and countless others. As for budget.. under $800 But like I said.. I already have the RAM, DVD Burner, Hard Drive, possibly use that PSU at least for the time being.

The PSU is brand new. Un-opened box (bought too many of them for a job I did a few months back) So if it will run what I have ok then I'm not sure I want to throw money at it.. I will upgrade if I decide to go SLI or RAID later on. Like I said .. already have the RAM and it was free & new as well.

I've setup and run OC for others but never found need for my uses. I probably won't overclock.. I'm running a slower machine now and never really needed to OC. If I ever get bored and have extra cash to waste I might go liquid cooled and OC.. but for now.. not gonna happen.
