    Suggestions for a new computer?

I'm going to be assembling the computer myself and with my more experienced friends so that gives me a bit more money to play around with.

I'm guessing that by the time I get around to buying this new computer (hopefully by the end of next month) prices will be different and maybe even parts.....but it'd be nice if I can see what sort of computer I can buy in my price range.

Budget is really in the region of £400-£550...but of course the cheaper it is the better.

Some things to take into account:

-The Dell monitor I have with my current computer is fine as it is....will not be buying a new one.
-I'm planning on getting Windows 7 myself (if you get what I mean) so you don't have to include that in the package.
-The computer is mostly going to be for gaming....

Also some other things I wouldn't mind knowing is....is it worth keeping anything from my old computer?? I have 2gb RAM, 2x 150GB hard drives (one of which has rarely been filled over 5gb)....

The only thing that you might be able to use is the ram, and for that you need to post more of its specs.
    Fuck 'em.

Not particularly sure how to find this out.

Also what about my hard drives? Could they be re-used?

My first one has been full for a long time and I don't think I've ever actually reformatted it so probably best to chuck that but my 2nd one is nearly untouched.

I agree...who cares really..even if its DDR2 its prolly some slow ram..
Plus if he wants to up grade to 4 GB which is what would be in his price range it prolly be better to buy two new stick os 2x2 to have the same brand same clock....So I dont think his old system is really relevant

These are wish lists I made on newegg and I posted in toxins thread..
    amd
    http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=17720828
intel i5 (includes an after market cooler and thermal paste)
    http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=17838508
^if prices are similar in UK this is right at the expensive side of your budget which is prolly where you wanna be for a decent upgrade

Amd would prolly be cheaper in the end..
Neither of these would allow sly/xfire.. but on your budget itd be hard..
I dont know about UK sites so you can look prices yourself im sure!
A core 2 quad might be a cheaper option with intel but 775 socket is dying/dead...so i5 would give you room for upgrade in the future..I dont know what amd is planning to do with their socket.
these are example for your budget.. DX11 card might also be a smart move 5750 or something to that extent but the more you want the further you'll be from your budget..sapphire are probably the cheapest card with a decent name..then it gets a little more expensive. nVidia doesnt have "cheap" DX11 cards yet...
I dont know what amd is planning to do with their socket..

You can get a nice HDD like the one in the list I posted (again based on your budget SSD is unattainable) which is most likely faster than yours for a fair price
you can put the one you have in there as back up or extra storage thats what I did..you have room in the case and plenty of power and cable length with that PSU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-865-_-Product maybe? if you can afford it

    Fuck.

Because my parents just don't know how to save (if they save on something they'll spend it on something)...we're still paying off £200 of our old computer due to the massive interest.

So.....even if I offer to add the £200 or so I have lying around the house it's still a no till the summer......:ohwell:

I could get a job but.....yeah I'd rather just wait.
