Looking to build a laptop (NEED HELP)

I'll start off by saying the reason I'm not posting this in build a rig thread.
I know nothing about what I'm asking, and I don't want to ruin the thread with tons of posts asking what does what etc.

Okay so I want a good laptop, and I figure I can get exactly what I want for much cheaper, if I build it myself rather than buy a premade one, or even a customizable one like off dell.. This is why I need you guys.

I'm not even a tiny bit of a tech person, so I'm asking you guys to kindly help me

I'm looking to spend lets say up to 1000 dollars on a laptop (maybe a little more but preferrably not). I need said laptop to be able to handle games like tf2, l4d2, css perfectly fine. I wont be playing ridiculous games like crysis so it doesn't need to be PHENOMENAL, but whatever is in my price range is fine.

So if people would be so kind as to build a rig for me, and explain why/what it is you are recommending. I literally know nothing, so try to explain it as if you were talking to a retard (for lack of a better word).

I tried looking at other threads, but they seemed to be more dedicated to desktops rather than laptops :\

Also is putting the laptop together myself hard? or not.

What do you guys who know more than me think about this for what I want and the price:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834146612

Also, that laptop has 6 cell lithium, how long dyou think it would last? Or does it seriously vary a lot from laptop to laptop and so guessing is futile? And how much would it cost to get a 9 cell battery?

    Why not this?
Better specs, bigger screen, and less money.

I went with a dell for about 1500 (CAD). I wanted the HP counterpart for a fair bit cheaper and instead of facial recognition it hand fingerprinting, but HP (the noobs) dont ship to Canada (or at least they don't let you customize your laptop to ship to canada. Can only buy prebuilt ones so I went with Dell.. But I trust dell's battery life a lot more than HP so thats a good thing.

Honestly if you're going to get a laptop, I recommend against Dell. For laptops, I suggest Toshiba, HP, or Acer.

Edit: If they don't ship from Canada, then buy it from Newegg.

His last post said he bought a dell so I guess no more suggestions are needed! And though dell has shit customer service they make good laptops..
Sony is way overpriced even though they provide a good product I do not think its worth the money

It's not really cost effective to build a laptop. There are no standard part shapes (ATX, etc.) as far as I'm aware. It just goes by the manufacturer and however they feel like building it. In my experience I have nothing but good things to say about Dell laptops. (the Latitude 600x range in particular) as well as the new Vostro range are both good, durable and powerful laptops.
    I'm back. Tell a friend.

If you're going for durability, get a ThinkPad. I have a T500, and it's as sturdy as a rock.

Really? HP? The worst laptop maker in the industry?

But seriously though, if you're not too picky on graphics and have the cash to spare, get a ThinkPad. I have no regrets about my T500 I got nearly a year ago. It has served me well.

I'm excited about the facial recognition that will come with my dell. I think I would have preferred HPs counterpart the fingerprinting, but facial recognition sounds sweet too.
And yeah I trust dell too. Always have liked dell more than hp, but I don't have a lot to say about hp, they just seem to add a ton of unnecessary crap to your machine.

I trust dell's battery life MUCH more than HP's. So I'm pretty excited. I'll post about it when I actually get it a few weeks from now.

Here I'll post the specs I got, you guys can tell me what you think:

    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
Security: 3 year mcafee for only 40 bucks
LCD Display: 17.3” HD+ (900p) Bright LED Display with TrueLife™ and Camera/Facial Recognition SW
Memory: 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
    Hard Drive: 1TB (2 x 500GB) Dual SATA Hard Drive (7200rpm)
Graphics Card: 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
Battery: 85 Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
Bluetooth: Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Internal (2.1)

I also got backlit keyboard. What d'you guys think? Hoping it is exactly what I need and more
