    DarkRP FAQ

    - Getting Started
A little guide to get those who are unfamiliar with DarkRP started.

The first thing you want to do is pick a job, Press F4 (Default Key) to open the Job menu and select a job.
Now, you'll want to build yourself a base (See the "Building your Base" section).
What kind of base or house is all up to you, but make sure it's raid-able (See the "Building your Base" section).

When you've built yourself a base you can start RolePlaying. Depending on your job, you can sell goods available to your job, such as Gun Dealer, Arms Services, Doctor or Drug Dealer (See "F4 Menu" Section) or you can lend people your services for a certain fee, such as Hitman, Security Guard.
Aside from the jobs that can lend services and sell items, there's also a few criminal jobs out there.
The purpose of these jobs is to steal items or money from other players by mugging them, or raiding their bases (See "Raiding" Section).

If you don't feel like building a base, you can always ask another player if you can base with them (Beware, that certain jobs cannot base with eachother. (Read the Job Specific Rules in the DarkRP Rules thread.) or you can pick the Hobo job.

    - A few useful tips
    - Q menu ("Show Menu" in Gmod controls)
This menu will be used alot, since this is where you spawn props and objects.
Depending on what games you have installed on your computer, you will have access to props and objects from several games besides Gmod. The best way to figure all this out is to simply use it.

On the right side of the "Q" Menu there are some tabs, such as Tools, Utilities and Wire.
Each of these tabs contains a number of tools that can be used in Gmod to build and create.
The best way to figure this out is also to use it, and search for tutorials on Youtube.
If I ever figure out how to make a video, I'll make a tutorial myself and update this thread.

    - F1 Menu ("Show Help" in Gmod controls)
The F1 menu shows all the commands available in the server. You can also search for commands in the search bar at the top of the menu.

    - F4 Menu ("Spare 2" in Gmod Controls)
Remember this key, because you will use this menu alot.
There are 4 tabs in this menu; Jobs, Miscellaneous, Shipments and Ammo.

    - Jobs
In the Jobs tab you can select your job, see what gear each job starts with and a short description of the job.
Note that some jobs are not visible yet, until you have become the job required for it (Such as Police Chief requiring Police Officer) So when you've selected a Job, check again in the menu to see if it's opened any other job possibilities.

    - Miscellaneous
This tab contains the Money Printers that you can buy and the Piano.
Each money printer has a different cost and, as you may have expected, the higher the price, the more money the printer generates. Note that you can have 2 of each printer.
The piano is a playable piano with some sheetmusic built in, be careful of where you place the piano, because the only way to move it around is to prop-push it, which will probably cause it to end up in the water, or upside down in a corner.

    - Shipments
The Shipments tab will be greyed out with most jobs, except for a few, such as Gun Dealer and Drug Dealer.
In this tab you can see all the shipments that your job can purchase. Every shipment has its own cost and amount of items it spawns with (In most cases theres 10 items in 1 shipment).
These are the items that you can sell to other players.

    - Ammo
In this tab, you can purchase different kinds of Ammo for guns.
If you don't know what ammo your currently equipped gun uses, equip it, type /drop, pick it up again and look to the right of your screen. It should say the Weapon name, and the ammo type below it.
Note that right now, most ammo's are bugged and won't work.

    - Vehicles
In this tab, you can purchase vehicles.
Soon this will be updated with more vehicles, but for now we have Jeep and Airboat.

    - How to make Money
Making money can go slow or fast, depending on the risk you're willing to take.
The best thing to start off with as you first join the server is either picking a Job that can lend services to other players for a fee such as guarding someones base as a Security Guard, taking hits from players on other players as a Hitman, healing people for a fee as a Doctor, keeping peoples Money Printers secure as a Banker, etc.

If the above doesn't suit you, there's also the possibility of picking a Job that can supply other people, such as Weapons, Drugs, Healthpacks and Armor. These jobs are Gun Dealer, Doctor, Drug Dealer, Arms Services.
If you just started you're best off starting out as a Gun Dealer, selling only on demand, or a doctor healing people for a fee and selling them shipments of health or armor.
The safest way to do this is to build a small base and make sure you have very little or no shipments on stock. This will make you less likely of a target for Thiefs, Gangsters and Mafia to raid.

As you get more money and you become better at building, you can start selling more expensive things, expanding your base, make it harder to raid and even set up an automatic gun/drug -store.

And last, but not least, there's Money Printers.
These are the best and fastest way to make money, but also very risky, seeing as having them will make you a target for both Criminals and Law Enforcement, seeing as money printers are illegal in the RP-rules, so they can be destroyed/confiscated by the Police.
Also beware, that every printer has a chance of catching fire and exploding. When a printer explodes, the fire has a chance to spread to your other printers and even nearby shipments.
To prevent the fire from spreading, put the printers into prop-boxes and weld the boxes together. This will prevent the fire from spreading.

Watch my short tutorial on how to make a secure printer-cage for your printers and other valuables.

    - Raiding
Raiding is a very big part of DarkRP. To raid someone means to infiltrate a players' base and steal/destroy their items and printers.
Note that not all jobs are allowed to raid. See more in the DarkRP Rules thread under "Job Specific Rules" about which jobs can raid.
Unlike most servers, it is mandatory to advertise(See how to advertise in FAQ) that you're raiding, but it is considered a common courtesy.
If you've killed a person in his base while you were raiding, that person has to wait out the NLR (5 minutes) until he can return to his base.
Once you've finished a raid, there is a 10 minute cooldown until you can raid another player again.

    - DarkRP Tools
    Every job spawns with a bunch of tools, most importantly the following;
    • Gravity Gun
The good old Gravity Gun. Use the Primary fire to blast objects away and Secondary fire to pick objects up. Extremely useful and cool.
    • Physgun
The Physgun is what you'll be using alot while building. With the physgun you can pick up props with Primary Fire and drag them around. Secondary fire freezes the currently selected prop, making it immovable until you pick it up with your Physgun again.
You can also, while holding a prop, hold "E" and move the mouse to rotate a prop. To snap-rotate, hold Shift+E.
    • Keys
With the Keys you can lock and unlock chair (Left click for lock, right click for unlock) and you can perform some animations by right, or left, clicking with the keys
    • Pocket
With Pocket you can put items into your "Pocket" by left clicking an item. You can pocket Guns, Drugs, Medpacks, Shipments and even chairs, apparently. To remove something from your pocket, simply right click. Beware that if you die, everything in your pockets will be dropped to the floor. If you change jobs, however, you will keep the items pocketed.
    • Camera
A very annoying tool, which seems to only exist for minges to blind people.
Of course, you can make screenshots with it by left clicking, but you can also screenshot by pressing F12.
    • Tool Gun
The tool gun is the best thing ever and if you like to build, it will be your best friend.
The Tool Gun has a great many uses and settings, most of which should just be experimented with to learn.
    • Lockpick
The Lockpick is a tool that only a few jobs get. This can be used to pick Fading Doors, which are required in bases, to get into peoples bases. To lockpick simply Left Click on a fading door. This tool is also very useful to locate a fading door, by running along a wall, left clicking all props.
    • Battering Ram
The Battering Ram is basically an improved lockpick, but can only be used with a Warrant, which needs to be issued for a good reason. To use the battering ram, select it, right click to arm it, then left click on the fading door to instantly open it.

    - A few things you should definitely NOT do.

    - Propsurfing, proppushing
Alot of people join the server and just mess around with props, pushing people with spawned props with the Physgun, launching themself up in the air by propsurfing with the Physgun. This is a very big nono. It's against server rules and just plain annoying.

    - Propblocking
Propblocking can happen in many ways, be it locking people in a propcage, spawning giant props inside/on top of someone, blocking off areas of the map, or simply blocking all entrances to a base. (Either their own, or someone elses)
This is also a very big nono, it ruins gameplay and the RP-element in DarkRP.

    - RDMing
Random Death Match. Don't pick a job that spawns with a gun and start shooting every single person in sight, this is called RDMing and will result in you being either demoted from your job, hunted by the entire server or you getting kicked and/or banned.

    - Random Demotes/Wanteds/Warrants
All jobs can vote to demote people in the case they're not doing their jobs, or breaking server rules. (/demote playername reason) Use this only when necessary and don't do it too hastily. The same goes for making people Wanted, and issuing warrants. (/wanted playername reason , /warrant playername reason) Wanted and Warrant are only available to Police Officers, Army Officers and the Mayor and should only be used if the player has in-game evidence of someone breaking the RP-Laws.

    - Single Shipments
I advise you to NEVER, EVER buy ANY shipments ending with the word "Single".
The price ratio is insanely high compared to normal shipments (Usually containing 10 items) and you will probably lose alot of money on them.

    - Prop Glitching
There are several ways to glitch into somebody's base, such as the chair glitch.
Do NOT do this, because it will result in a ban.

    - FAQ

    - How to Fading Door?
To place a fading door, you will first need to place a prop that you want to use as door. This can be anything at all.
Next off, select the "Fading Door" tool in the "Q Menu", under the Tools Tab and the Construction header.
This is a relatively simple tool to use and it has little options, which all speak for themselves.
"- Start Out Faded" means the prop you use Fading Door on will instantly fade.
"- Toggle" if checked, the door will remain open once u open it, until you close it yourself pressing the hotkey, or wired button again. If unchecked the door will remain open only if you hold down the key assigned to the door, or the wired button.

    - How to make signs?
The Text Screen is how you make signs. This tool is Located in in the "Wire" tab of the "Q Menu" under Visuals>Screens> Text Screen.
In the tool menu to the right of the tool list, you can pick the font size, font type, font color, the prop which will act as screen and all the way at the bottom, what text you want.
When you've finished the settings, simply left click somewhere to place the screen.

    - How to chat in OOC and advert?
The first thing you need to know about chatting in DarkRP is that there's a hearing range for the normal chat. Only people in a certain radius will be able to hear you talk, and their names will also be displayed right above the chatbox.

To type in OOC (Out Of Character) begin your message with either "//" or "/a", for example:
"// Hello World" will become (OOC) Player: Hello World, everyone can hear you.
"/a" Hello World" will become (OOC) Player: Hello World, everyone can hear you.

To have a slightly increased hearing range, you can use "Yell" by beginning your message with /y, for example:
"/y Hello World" will become (yell) Player: Hello World, People can hear you from a bit further than normal.

To advertise something for everyone to hear, like OOC, begin your message with "/advert", for example:
"/advert Hello World" will become (Advert) Player: Hello World, everyone can hear you, and your text color will be yellow.
(Note that /advert is only to be used to advertise ingame RP things, such as announcing a raid, letting people know your store is open, etc.)

To talk to people in your job group (Such as Thiefs, Gangsters, Mafia, Army+Police+Mayor) start your message with "/g", for example:
"/g Hello World" will become (group) Player: Hello World, only people in your jobgroup can hear you.

    - What is NLR?
When you die, NLR states that you have to wait 5 minutes before you can return to where you died.

Simply put, the New Life Rule means that, when you die, you start a new life, you forget about anything you may have seen before u died, you don't know that you just died and you most certainly don't revengekill people.

For example; A police officer gets shot by a gangster during a raid.
The police Officer respawns and immediately uses /wanted on the gangster and arrests him.
This is NOT allowed seeing as according to the NLR, the officer can't possibly know that that particular gangster shot him.

Another example; A thief raids your base, kills you and steals all your weapons and money printers.
After you respawn, you immediately go back to your base to kill the thief and take back what he stole.
This is NOT allowed. First off, you have to wait 5 minutes until you can return to your base.
Secondly, NLR states that you're not supposed to remember who raided you and stole your stuff.
This also means that even after the 5 minutes, you can't go hunting for that thief and kill him.

    - Someone is RDMing me, should I rdm him back?
    No.
RDMing RDMers will only cause more RDM.
If you see someone RDMing, record a short demo (Open console, and type "record RDM") and get his steam ID, by clicking on his name in the Tab menu (Scoreboard). To stop recording type "stop" in console.
Then upload the demo to mediafire.com or filedropper.com or anything, and post a Player Complaint here.

-How do I remove muzzle flash?
Type this into console m9kgaseffect 0 in order to remove muzzle flash
