    Optimisation help

Hey guys. I'm about to start work on my jail break map again, but I need some tips. The armory is basically taking up a shit load of FPS because of the amount of guns I have (literally, from 130 to like 40). Are there any specific brushes I can put in there so once outside of the armory so the guns won't be rendered?

    Thanks all

How many guns do you have? It must be a huge amount if it's lagging up the map. Something you could do is just have a brush that spawns a weapon when you either touch it or press a button (so as to minimize the actual amount of guns rendered at each point in time). I haven't mapped in a while so I can't remember all of the parts of doing such a thing though, sorry.

Also, this could be caused by one specific entity, because I find it a bit weird that something like that happens.

I had a very similar method in another map, though if spammed it would crash the server. I suppose I could edit it to only spawn a maximum of around 10.

Ok. I've tried everything. I'm running my map at 200+ FPS. Whenever I look into the direction of the armory I drop to 60/70. Driving me insane.

    EDIT:
Nevermind! Finally figured out where to put my occluders. Just got a 40FPS boost

There is a 90% chance you should not be using occluders.

I recommend using func_areaportal, or func_areaportal_window, as well as possibly some hint brushes.

It's possible that you will end up needing occluders, I just can't see it being necessary (but it depends how the map is set up).

Is there a door to the armory? If the door is likely going to be open a lot, then func_areaportal_window might be of use. Again it's possible that occluders are the way to go, but if you can optimize it without occluders, that would be better.
