First off dl these tools which will make skinning a whole lot easier
GCFscape
VTF Edit
If you already have these, move on to the first number.
1. Extracting:
Ok, so first of all. after installing all these programs. open gcfscape and click file>open and browse to C:\program files\steam\steamapps and double click on counter-strike source shared.gcf it should load up the file and have a list of folders.
in the folders, go to cstrike\materials\models\weapons
*if you want to just edit one weapon*
go into the v_models folder for player view (in your hand) or w_models folder for world view (on the ground) and click right click>extract on the folder for the gun you want to edit and select a place where you can access it easily.
*if you want to edit other weapons later*
just right click on the models folder. and extract to somewhere where you can access it easily.
2. Converting:
open Vtfedit and click file>open and browse to where you extracted to in the first step.
select the vtf file you want to edit. and open it.
it will come up with a picture of that texture
now click file>export, and either save it in the same folder or save it somewhere else where you can access it.
the file will now be a tga image. this means it can now be opened by photoshop.
3. Editing.
Just open the Tga with photoshop and edit it how you want.
4. Converting back
now that you have finished changing the skin how you want. open Vtfedit again. and click file>import and browse to where you have saved the Tga file, and open it. then click save as. and save it somewhere. its always easier if you save it with the name of the file you wish to use it as. Eg. W_eq_defuser
5. Testing
Do this step if you want a screenshot, or if you want to confirm it looks good. Copy and paste the Vtf file into
c:\program files\steam\steamapps\******\counter strike source\cstrike\materials\models\v_models (or w_models) and then the folder of the weapon you were editing.
make sure the file has the name used by the weapon, if you have a weapon file in there already, you can just replace it. Open css, create/find a server and the skin you have made should appear instead of the default.
6. Finishing
when you're done, take some good screenshots, add the vtf file to a zip/rar file, and upload it to the website. (if you want)
If you don't want to use the skin yourself, you can just delete the vtf file that you put into the directory and it will revert back to default
Thanks for readin ;)
