I have seen some situations where something racist is stated and an admin could care less, then in another situation something that could be considered mildly racist at best gets someone kicked.

Another situation is where porn sprays will go widely accepted without any discussion, then an admin will come on that does not like pornographic sprays and thusly tells no one to spray them.

My question is, can any admin decide which rules to obey and which rules to bend, if not break, or should we simply stick to whatever the fundamental rules of the servers are?

Other example may be out there, feel free to add them into the discussion as well.

I have seen what you speak of but I don't necesarrily think there is a problem here. Is it that you do or something?

In these cases rules are guide lines and each admin responds to them how they see fit; they are suppose to set an example and act accordingly. There is a reason why this place has multiple levels of authority and it is to keep things in check. The system works well in my opinion, since it is damn near impossible to rule an online game with an iron fist where everything goes without incident.

Rules are important, but I think it is the admins responsibility to know when something should be taken lightly or not, or if it should be.

Well for the first paragraph, Admins are supposed to warn/kick a player for any racism before banning them unless they are spamming it or a griefer. Unfortunatly many admins just jump right to bans when they should be giving warnings first.
Also, I think that the situations you are talking about are probably where an admin has the game alt tabbed so he doesnt see/hear the racism, And/Or the admin is simply not paying attention and misses the Racism.

As for your second issue, as stated in our MOTD admins are free to deam any spray (Within reason) they deam as inapropriate as bannable from the server following a warning. Some admins are offended by pornographic sprays and some are not. This is probably the only issue where SA's actually get to decide what they believe is inapropriate, and act based on what they think. (Of course admins should not abuse this liberty by claiming "Normal" sprays are bannable.)

To conclude, all admins should comply with our admin rules at all times, but ocassionally we are bound to have an admin who does not feel obliged to follow our rules, and in these cases where we have proof, consequences for said admins will be handed out.

Personally I believe the system is fine as it is, some admins take things harder, some lighter, but the system is fairly balanced and quite just.

My point would be to have the admins talk amongst themselves about setting a universal threshold for what is acceptable and what is not in terms of etiquette and the like.

Albeit we do live in an extremely diverse world where any system will have it's naysayers, ergo, faced with this reality, I will not feel disserved if this topic is not taken into more than thoughtful consideration as that is all I can ask of the masses.

Most of our rules for admins and for the servers in general are pretty concrete and impossible to misinterprit.

The problem is that we will never be able to all agree on a single "Threshold" at which point you are banned. The best thing we can do is ask admins to punish for blatent acts that defy the rules, but if they come across anything they are not sure about to ask a higher up for their opinion on the issue and the appropriate action to take.

I think it is nice to have consistency with people who enforce rules.

Its the same in sports, it is good to know the rules and what you can and cannot do ALL the time. It is misleading if you do something and an admin does nothing and then later you get a big ban by another admin.

Still with most of these bans they get reduced and whilst it would be nice to have consistent rules, its pretty hard to expect that.

Sometimes an admin will act more harshly on a certain rule if it personally affects them. I think it would be too hard to expect every admin to follow a very strict set of rules when certain things bother every admin differently.

I personally cannot deal with or stand mic spammers or people yelling into mics and people playing music. I mute/kick very quick. But another admin might be able to tolerate it longer than I could. It gives me a headache so I'm sure it affects other players as well. On a server of 40, one person mic spamming with others legitly(?) trying to communicate is too much for me. There's always exceptions though if the players seem to enjoy someone talking loudly and making jokes, I'll let it slide with a warning to settle down/stop yelling.

Sprays are just admin based because it would be too hard to just outright ban all porn sprays. It's there incase there's a certain spray an admin doesn't like but another doesn't have a problem with. It just gives them the right to kick/ask someone to change their spray. I like to credit this rule with my old spray that I lost. =[ COUGHCOUGHCOUGH.<3 rool:

I do think that a lot of admins may not know how harshly they can act for certain actions and just use empty threats. Example: Escape, Atix_helix, banning zombies for surviving the nuke. That isn't a bannable offense and I've seen several admins warn/say it is. The players even seem to think so.

While I was EO a LONG time ago we tried to make a list of things bannable in sprays but we ran into the problem that if you ban

Nazi sprays, should you ban communists sprays too?

Most common sprays that arent accepted are Child porn, and Nazi paraphernalia.

Admins pay and all but from the general point of admin and the servers is that you are supporting it and the community, you are there for the communitys gain not yourself.

Which brings me to admins choosing which rules depending on their own preference. If 5 people don't like a spray but the admin doesn't mind, the admin won't bother. If no one cares about the spray but the admin does, he will make sure they stop spraying it.

I am grateful to all admins who pay, but I am not ashamed to say that you are there for the community because it is what you have stated.

I would let the "Admins can't see everything" thing slide but if they can be bothered to see and act on things that bother them, they should act on what others bother them, if it is a genuine case. If you don't then, you are using admin for your sole benefit and denying others that same benefit.
