The homepage has been mostly restored (not 100% the exact same, but by and large it looks mostly the same).

If you see anything amiss, message me and I'll take a look at it when I get a chance.

That's right folks, SteamGamers is hosting a mapping competition. The first mapping competition will be held for Minigames and Zombie Escape and will be open for a month, which should give you plenty of time to get your map going! There are prizes involved and of course the benefit of having your map added to our server rotation. For more information, click here to find out more.
Quick Answers

  • What is a member of SG?

  • A member of SG has a few upsides and virtually no downsides. A member is essentially just a normal user to the forums, but with the added touch of showing yourself as being more dedicated and supportive of SG. All members can use the «SG.Mem» tag in-game to show themselves as being a member, but this does not grant them any powers or immunity from rules. You are also considered a member if you are a regular or a supporter.

  • What are the upsides and downsides to being a member?

  • The main part about being a member is that is allows you to become a regular later on. After 100 forum posts and 60 days have passed from forum registration, you will automatically be granted regular status on the forums. This also allows you to use the «SG.Reg» tag which again serves no real purpose other than to show you are a regular of SG. You will also have an SG member user title on the forums. It is important to note that you cannot be a regular unless you are a member first.

The only real downside of being a member is that is can be removed should you be banned for more than a day. You can reapply for member after a month or two since the ban was enacted but whether or not you are accepted is the discretion of the Account Administrator.

  • Is there any point in being a regular?

  • There is only one benefit to being a regular over a member and that is having the ability to make admin applications. Normally this is restricted to anything below a regular, so members do not make the cut. Being a regular also shows us you have some continued support and loyalty towards SG, and is the only way you can apply for admin should you not want to be or pay for supporter. You will also get a SG Regular user title on the forums and the ability to use the «SG.Reg» tag in-game.

  • How and where can I apply for membership?

  • It is important to note that you can only be a member if you have a forum account already created. Bans may also block your application from being accepted should they be deemed bad enough to not entitle you to the tag. All the members and regulars using the tag should show themselves as examples to the rest of the players and users and not be breaking rules themselves. Please be aware of this when you apply.

    Apply for member here.

  • What is a supporter?

  • A supporter is someone who has donated $20 or more in a single or cumulative amount to SG. A supporters name will appear blue on the forums and will have an SG Supporter user title. They can also use the «SG.Sup» tag in-game. Like members and regulars, they do not gain any powers or have immunity to rules. You do not need to apply for member should you be a supporter as they are counted the same.

  • What are the upsides and downsides to being a supporter?

  • The upsides of being a supporter are huge. It is the highest rank you can acquire in SG before any administrative rank comes into play. The upsides include:

    • - Gaining access to exclusive supporter only items in the SG store such as skins, trails and coloured text.

    • - Some items in the store that become available are also discounted by 10%. A trail costing 5000 credits would therefore be 4500.

    • - Supporters also gain a reserved slot on all servers where available. Normally this will include most source games such as CS:S and Garry's Mod.

    • - Supporters get a vent channel that only supporters or above can enter.

    • - A whole range of Minecraft bonuses, too long to mention them all here. Read here Supporter status! for more information.

    • - A range of upgrades on the forums including: a large pm storage, the ability to set a custom user title, can set yourself to invisible mode when browsing and much more.

    • - The ability to apply for admin will also be available instantly upon being a supporter.

    • - Supporter is permanent and does not last a set amount of time.

    • - Supporter is also permanent even if you get banned or go inactive. You do not lose supporter unless you get permanently banned.

Of course this only includes the benefit of being a supporter in itself. There are usually other benefits that come with being a supporter as you normally donate for it. Any amount of a donation will earn you credits which will be explained more in the SG store section.

No real downside to being a supporter other than you are held to a higher standard in-game and on the forums. Being a supporter should also mean you are helpful and supporter to all.

  • Why should I donate?

  • Besides the fact that donations help keep everything about SG alive, donating also gives you credits for the SG store that we run on CS:S and partially Gmod. Donations increase the amount of credits you receive the more you donate in a single go. For instance, each dollar up to $10 will earn you 700 credits, so $5 would equal 3500 credits, $10 would be 7000. Every 11th number increases the amount of credits by 100, so $11 would be 7800 rather than 7700. This is why donating $20 (the amount needed for supporter) would equal 15000 credits and not 14000. The credits you earn from donating allows you to buy items in the store.

Donating is also the way to get supporter, be it in a cumulative amount (say four $5 donations over time) or a single amount of $20 or more.

  • How do I donate?

  • You must have a forum account first.

    Donate here.

  • How do I apply for admin?

  • You can only apply for admin if you are a regular or a supporter. Pretty much everything you could want to know can be found in the link below.

Apply or read about admin applications.

  • What is a Server Administrator (SA)?

  • An SA is an admin who has volunteered to administrate the servers and help the community out. They are not obligated to enforce the rules all the time but are expected to keep the server peace at all times. SA's have rules themselves to abide to and may not use powers to abuse. SA is the most basic level of administration in SG and can only be obtained by application.

  • What is a Community Enforcer (CE)?

  • A CE is a member who has earned a spot in between that of an SA and an AO. Their duties include handling player complaints, admin applications, managing vent, moderating the forums and generally helping out the community where ever possible. This ranks is expected before a promotion to AO occurs and acts as a stepping stone.

  • What is a Forum Moderator?

  • As the title suggests, these guys only moderate the forums and do minimal server administration. Generally these guys will deal with reported posts and handing out infractions.

  • What is a Retired Staff (RS)?

  • Retired Staff is a rank given to those who were in a previous higher up role including TA, AO, BD, VP and PO. It is essentially just an SA rank, but with the added respect that they deserve for helping out the community as much as they did. Sometimes these guys will help out in other roles such as forum mod or being a CE, but retired staff generally means most have gone off to live their lives.

  • What is an Account Administrator (AA)?

  • The AA role is essentially to deal with membership requests and name changes. Acting a bit like an AO, this role will have a bit less say on decisions but more access to accounts.

  • What is a Technical Administrator (TA)?

  • A TA focuses on the server sided problems more than anything. They deal minimally with forum problems but do have some input on important discussions. Should getting hold of a BD fails, you should message a TA to help you out. TA is given to those with a high trust value.

  • What is an Administrative Officer (AO)?

  • A large role in the affairs of SG is dealt with by AO's. Most complaints, appeals, suggestions and decisions are made by the AO's and they deal primarily with forum issues but also some server and some PR. The AO rank is regarded as a high trust position like the TA.

  • What is a Board of Director (BD)?

  • The BD role is the highest rank before being the actual Vice President (VP) or President (PO) of SG. BD's have the highest role in affairs and have access to almost everything. They are expected to advise and lead the community and require full trust and confidence. BD is only ever given to those from a TA or AO position.

  • What is the SG store?

  • The SG store is a sourcemod plugin we use for our CS:S and gmod servers. It's function is essentially to earn credits while you play by converting your time into credits. Normally 1 minute will earn you 1 credit but sometimes multiplier effects will be in effect so rather than earning 1 credit you may earn 2 credits for each minute.

The store allows players to buy items with the credits they earn by playing and/or donating. Items types include: hats, trails, skins and gun colours. A full list of the items with pictures can be found by clicking here.

Some servers may not have the store implemented due to incompatibility with a mod or game-type. Some games such as ArmAII, Minecraft and CS:GO will not have the store at all. It is mainly for CS:S. The store also have limited functionality on some servers such as ZE and TTT. For instance, ZE has a problem with displaying gun colours, so they will end up being invisible. TTT has the items disabled but credit earning enabled.

    Post your map removal here.

  • I have something else to suggest, ask or report, what do I do?

  • First off, using the chatbox will normally not help your case along unless it is something that can be easily answered by a member. It is not advisable to trust the answers given by anyone below the rank of Administrative Officer, as the information may be a guess or false. Use the proper forum sections should you need to report or ask something such as the Server Fix Requests forum, the Questions forum, the Community Suggestions forum, etc.

Our History

SteamGamers was originally called ZombieMurder when it was founded by Haggard in Feb 2007 with the goal to be the best Zombie Mod community. To achieve that goal we set high standards for our players and admins which allowed us to keep our servers fun and keep the admins from being overwhelmed. Although the site Zombie Murder opened in early 2007 our first server was opened in October 2006 which is known today as NAPALM. With a good strategy and some of his own money invested the site and server took off. It wasn't long before we had multiple servers and hundreds of Forum users.

In the fall of 2007 we had (3) succesful servers and wanted to expand to regular Counter Strike Source so we launched the opening of SteamGamers.com. To continue to grow we knew we had to make the leap to a dedicated server. With the communities support we were able to purchase a dedicated server that could support all our servers with plenty of room to grow. Today we have loads of servers using the Steam Gamers trademark. In 2010, the community was bought by GarfieldH.

After even more contiuned growth we have over 4000 forum users and have recently purchased our second dedicated server which gives us plenty of room to grow and host many new games coming out this year.

Key to Success

Here at SteamGamers, we're a family, everyone knows each other and if you don't you'll quickly get to know the users of SteamGamers. We've built ourselves around the players, our aim is to have fun and not take life to serious, and just chit-chat all the time! Play games, and have a good laugh! You'll quickly find yourself at home with us, we have fun banter on the forums and drama! That's our key to success. Everyone is welcome, we're SteamGamers, we're unique.

In addition to involving the community we have a large variety of servers offering which keep our players happy and allow them to play all the games they like without having to look elsewhere.
