And before you start having a go, I'm actually curious as to whether I should get it after Christmas. Is it recommendable?

Yes get it, its amazing. Great cooperation if you got friends that have it. and the versus is fun if you get a good group. and if not, its still fun to die as a survivor even tho most people rage quit after the first 2 rounds.
