I've tried a system restore, i've tried restarting the router, steam works on the other computers in my house (same connection/network). I'm going to uninstall the anti virus and try without it, this will mean im not going to go online without anti virus so ill give an update later, help still needed.

*Edit*

I tried uninstalling the anti-virus but that didnt work either, nothing has changed on my computer since last time I could connect, it must be an external problem...

Not sure if you have done this already but have you tried sending a support ticket to steam?

Instead of opening up steam, go to http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php

Try Deleting the ClientRegistry.Blob in \Program Files\Steam that usaly fixes it.

I completley deleted everything in the steam folders and reinstalled, it worked, but I have to reinstall and update all my games. Hmmph.

you didn't have to do that........... when u get that error delete clientregistry.blob in your C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\(yoursteamname)\counter-strike source folder & start steam & it will update itself. SOMEONE STICKY THIS PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
