So, lets face it. MG is suffering. Its struggling to get on its feet again, and whilst the community event a few weeks back was great at getting people in, it seems to have only been a case of people coming in for rewards and then leaving again.

This really shouldn't be the case. MG has a big following from not only random players, but also from our own community. We should really be using that to bring the server back to a self-sustaining level.

After talking to people in the chat box, I decided to make this thread so YOU, the community can post in it, tell us what you think might help, what you want adding to the server, want removing from the server etc. etc.

Please just make sure to include links to plugins, maps etc.

Ideas/comments from CB were:

Bring back MG_Saw, Gore_Course, MG_cannonz

More maps that aren't Multigames

Course Timers

Bhop not working so great

Just needs to be less boring.

Also maby you can make a Multigame server of it! then i mean Deathrun / Gungame / Minigames / surf together
I know this was made by someone in the past probably but because everybody likes a different mod game why not try and all put some effort in making it populair

Yeah it's been hard to keep a population up, though yesterday I made an event and we got the server up to 18/32 which is decent (other servers were still busy too). I'm gonna see if I can get some ports of popular maps from CSS if they aren't already made.

Another two things that are still gonna happen:

1. The store is still going to be released. Mpqc is working on it still but we're definitely having it for mg
2. We've decided on some skins to use for players, sub's and Admins alike and those should be on as soon as is possible

I hope people have lots of ideas about how to make the server great :D

I feel like once we put a store in there and find a decent timer for course maps we may have a better time getting people to join the server at their own motives and not just "oh look an event, better do my job and populate it for three maps."

Perhaps maybe even adding a rank system too if possible? People seem to love that type of shit.

Another thing, if you see a map that's just not ready yet (like just flat out bugged) please just request it to get removed, no point in keeping maps that kill an already fragile server population.

like i said in Shoutbox....server population also get killed because of too many Multigame maps and almost none normal course maps...

Also map examples like a mg_saw map for instance or a mg_cannonz an old map that Paul made for minigames in the past

Eh that's pretty small to me. The server loses people because after awhile people start to leave to either play competitive or ZE. That's fine and all, no one should be forced to stay on the server for too long if you don't want to. Unfortunately the server fails to draw new people in to replace the ones that left. CSS MG could hold a population because really there wasn't much else in CSS in general! There was no competitive ranks and it was easy to find the server unlike now somewhat.

The map selection is fine, there's enough courses that are beatable, and the mg maps are fun for the most part. We just gotta find the maps that are bugged/shit and rid of them from the selection. Relax and give this shit time, it isn't going to explode like ZE did. I trust our AOs can make this work.

Oh, also we're gonna be testing an actual port for smee too soon so hopefully that'll help :bird:


EDIT: I have made a thread in the CA section specifically for development and improvement of the MG server. If any of you guys have ideas that are posted here, they'll be transferred to that thread so we can keep track of a to-do list and things to research :D

I disagree, the small map selection is one of the main problems with the server at the moment. We have the same problem the CSS server had, that people keep picking the same maps (swag, goldeneye, smee, ski, etc..), only now we have a lot less maps on the server so the problem is even worse.

A store isn't going to keep people playing if they get bored from playing the same maps over and over again.

On the topic of maps, I agree that the map selection list is fairly short. But, I''ve been looking around for MG maps and most of them are not that great or they are very buggy and crash the server. So, in order to increase that list, we have to find maps that actually work and doesn't kill the server (crash).
As I look through the map list, I've noticed the lack of multigames. I remember a lot of peoole in CSS MG that hated courses and only wanted to play multigames. This issue also goes back to the lack of maps in the MG community overall.
We need moar map makers! :)

The quote was really for just the balance of maps, not the selection. Poor choice of wording by me. Sadly the map selection isn't preventable until well.... decent ports come up and mappers get good ideas.

The store can help, people would have a reason to stay longer to get credits for playing. I recently went on another mg server and it was doing pretty good (solid 15+ people for two hours, not even just the same people) while it had a rank system and point shop.

Could be just a coincidence, but I feel like adding those could only help at this point.

TBH other than a lack of knowing what maps we want over on MG, their isnt anything stopping us from porting versions over ourselves, maybe adding a "Come play in SteamGamers" sign in spawn, to correct that issue.

The store would for sure help out. Know we discussed this in the CA meeting a bit, but just got to be careful it dosent screw over ZE at the same time.

I made also a suggestion about rewarding mappers or plugin makers for who makes the best map!
That could also help in increasing the maplist not only on ZE for example but also for MG!

and why i said too many multigamemaps was more because of the people always choosing the same all over again! (like already has been said)

But there are decent ports from mg_saw and i also saw somewhere a decent mg_cannonz port.
Its only to increase the mapcycle we need way more!

Otherwise as i suggested start thinking of a Multi Gamemode server!
I know that already has been done but with some more newly maps and fun plugins like a "Roll-the-dice" it could help increase!
Also people that really cares about the server and keeps populating it and invite friends to play.
Make funny movies and post it on Youtube with the steamgamers website advertised in it!

Yes, as much as it hurts to say Minigames is not going well...
But I see all of you saying that we need more map makers I mean yes this might make us different but why not try and put maps on from here

All we really would need to do is test all the ones we put on and sort out the shitty ones

We always dont need map makers when the maps are already out there and ready to put in.. Yeah that might be lame but it sure and hell would help out the servers.

And on the whole course topic yes we need more of those... I remember playing courses with r3tro last summer and the server was on pretty much 24/7 course on mg and they were populated pretty much all the time... The whole issue is would be who would code the timer... *Cough* Pan *Cough* (If he is not busy)

Going with onion here... We need to have the whole Game.me Stats back I remember always checking that because someone wanted to be the #1 in the server or see what rank you are. This would help with people staying on longer and coming back more frequently..

The store in MG is a HUGE part but we would need a bigger store for more items... For I have explored other mg servers as well and they had an abundant store with triple trails, Awesome player skins, Hats and so on and so forth... We can get a good store it should be good.

If we try keep trying I feel like it can have a big liftoff again......

deathrun alone would not be enough to run. I see a little group of servers running deathrun and there not really fully populated! first concentrate on the mg thing its more important to get 2 servers populated instead of only ze

Battleforce needs fixing because the balls don't work too great (we had it on for a while). I think Minecraft was way too long though I can't check if this is the same one we tried as I'm on my phone lol. Thanks for looking for maps bd <3 when I'm home from work I'll do some more sleuthing of my own!

I believe Nebo and Minecraft has already been suggested and didn't make it on the server. (I could be wrong)

Nebo and batleforce have both been removed for being shit/broken.

As far as a timer goes, coding one from scratch... Yeah, I highly doubt any of the higher ups would be willing to do that. The only available "working" CSGO timer is Zipcores, which worked, but broke so many other things with the server that it was decided that it wasn't worth having/trying to fix.

More maps are always nice. Back when I started the server, I went through and added every single MG map on fpsbanana and tested them. I believe we currently have less than half of those still on the server, as most ports were broken as shit. I myself know nothing about mapping, because I hate SDK so I dont even bother with it. But if someone really does want to start making ports, you don't even need to ask. Just do it, and we will be grateful.

Something said earlier about having a multimod server (which, btw, we currently do not have room for) gave me an idea though. What do you guys think about adding Death Run maps to MG? I know that some CSS MG servers used to run DR maps as well. I'm not saying its a good idea, but I would like to know what you guys think.

Edit: I apparently misread his post, but nonetheless. I could MAYBE also see surf maps being added, but not GG. DR seems the most plausible to me

P.s. Also added a bunch of map requests on the Minigames server to add.
Including some KA maps and a HE map and also the Mario party map.

I would add some deathrun maps but i thought these would be enough to add on the forum.
Otherwise i can post a reply here with some links to deathrun maps if you like!

I'll also try to concentrate on getting population to the MG server....
Because the ZE server is almost on self-population everyday

Haven't read all comments, but the recent ones so I'm gonna write down my suggestions, sorry if I repeat some stuff:
1. A bigger map pool
2. Nerf b-hop + the weird jump lag, I honestly don't know if it's just csgo or the server but yeah it's annoying
3. Add a timer
4. Dedicated admins and players who are willing to populate the server under any circumstances. In my opinion this is the biggest problem. We can't just expect it to become an active server after hosting only one event. Anyway, count me in to populate server. I don't really like CS GO ZE that much so I'll just continue being a MG fag and help populating it.

Screw it, lets do that then. I probably wont join 100% every night for these events, but why not :D

All the 4 points are valid though. Going to make sure to dig through the maps z3r0 posted and see what I like of them all. I advise everyone to do the same :D

I have to agree with retro, and malibu. I will help get it populated. I might have a few friends.

Business work by inviting friends. When your friends come on and invite more, and they invite more it gets populated. But people hate playing minigames map they wanted courses, they want trails and skins... We got to get them interested and stay playing just like what we did to the csgo on.

Retro you know i will. But we need more than 4 we need 10+ That will actually dedicate their time for mg

You guys do understand that we can't add a working timer, as one doesn't exist, right? Like, I've said it multiple times, and no one seems to notice. It's possible we could look into buying one, but tbh I'm not sure it wouldn't just be a waste of money, as I don't trust most CSGO pluggins, nor do I know where/whom to buy one from.

As we are starting to have some courses it would be good if we could switch spec and team like in good old times or atleast add auto respawn

The spec->team thing I feel like was a glitch within CS:S to do that... not 100% though lol. I'll look into an autorespawn plugin we can use for courses because I agree with you it should be an option.


Btw Bread and I went through a bunch of maps that were requested and added a few of them, check out the map requests section on the forums. For others we haven't looked at, I marked them as reviewed for now and we'll be testing them all soon (maybe have a little event to test them with a full-ish server?). :D



Please post any other suggestions if you guys do have them, because we want to make the server as good as possible!

I have already tried to find a pluggin that would allow you to respawn by switching to spec. I couldn't find one that worked and didn't turn off team limits and autoteam ballance as well. It's possible I missed one. But this was one of the pluggins that I tried out along with the timer

This plugin sounds useful - if it works properly, that is...

I've played on servers that seemed to have this exact plugin, but those servers only had course maps. If we were to add this to our mg server, we would have to find a way to exclude certain maps like smee, awp submarine, ski mountain, all the multigame maps - etc.

Ok, update here guys.

The respawn addon worked, but one of its key features doesn't. It is supposed to be able to sense when spawnkill is activated an turn itself off. It, infact, can't do this for many maps, so everyone would just be endlessly respawning. For now, we are shelving it. I will continue to look for a solution to this. For now, admins have access to the respawn command, which is kind of a fix for this issue.

Retro made a addon suggestion to me over steam the other day, but I have forgotten what it is. I'll bug him to post it here.

Adding a Roll The Dice mod has been suggested. I would like to know some more opinions on this before I consider implementing it.

I am still looking for any/all ideas to improve the server

ProfessorOak, you there? I'll contact him on steam and see if he's at all interested in doing a GO port for his map. I know he usually sticks to CS:S even still, so we'll see. Multi-game wise we can see what could be good, i.e. deathrun was brought up and we can talk about surf too

Indeed we can, might be easier if he does it since he has the original BSP and texturefiles and everything but yes others can do it. (Don't even necessarily need his permission for it but it's a good idea)

Sorry if this has been brought up before. I have no idea whats the situation but what's the status on the in-game store for the server? I have so many credits on CS:S that it feels like they went to waste on there :( I would also love to see more ported maps from CS:S if possible.

No worries bruh, the in-game store is being worked on by MPQC for release on all servers. Each server will have different items available for purchase, though I believe your credit count will be the same. No release date pegged for that officially yet, so stay tuned for more news on it from the higher staff+MP. Also, yeah porting maps is gonna be a big draw I'll see if I can get on that more coming soon.

Bumping to see if anyone has ideas that will keep people in the server over the long run. We get little blips of activity now and then and I guess just getting people to invite their friends is gonna be the biggest thing to do, but I'm wondering if you guys want to see anything done in the server that will make you come to play more?
