If you experience any lag spikes, followed by a crash, or just crashes in general, please post them here, including some info like;
- How many players on the server
- Beginning/mid/end of the map ?
- Was a map change imminent ?
- Any other/weird stuff to note ?

This will help to find what's causing this.

I haven't experience any crashes, just minor lag spikes a couple days ago. Server was full and it was toward the end of a map, last round and everyone seemed to use nades all at once. Also, minor lag last night only due to everything being down and !stopsound not working I'm sure. Will post other instances if they occur.

I'm sure you all are techie sort of guys but is the lag definitely server related or FPS drops? Everytime I have connected to SteamGamers the server has ran beautifully. I suffer from FPS drops more than I do server lag. Can't tell if that's bad optimization on the maps or what.

The server is much smoother than some of the others I've played on. Shame the lowish FPS on some maps kills it.

We had just switched to a different type of server and people were reporting issues but I was getting all kinds of random reports that made no sence. I got a crash report a few days ago that did provide some valuable information but unless it happens more often I can't really do anything to fix it.

There was also an issue with people lagging when groups of people were firing their guns at the same time, I've come to find out that these people are either missing or have a corrupted sound file and they need to verify the game cache.

Currently, I do not believe there are any on-going major issues with the server, lag and fps drops are something I really cannot fully prevent but as long as it isn't persistant I'm not too worried about it.

Can't tell if that's bad optimization on the maps or what.

That's extremely unlikely to be an issue, the problem occurs across the spectrum; ATIX maps and SST lag as often as the newest ones.

It could be player density however, we are cramming 60-odd players into small spaces. Quite a big problem on the older maps where they give you smaller holdpoints which arn't designed for noblock, which crams players closer together.

Wait? Did was it just you that crashed? Cause to me 'crash to desktop' sounds like CS:GO crashed for you.

Before Liam's time - it crashed two times within 2 hours of it as well. Around 35-45 players on the last two times before the 3rd one Liam posted. 1st one happened within 1 minute of landing into a new map (only 20% players had joined, so others were still loading to come in.. might be interesting that). 2nd crash happened near the end of the map time - no reason i can see it happen.

3 times within 3 hours - that's too much.

Ok thanks for the info on todays crashes, I think I've decided on something to try and gonna get some feedback and make a small change and hopefully it will get better. I'll let you guys know when we make the change.

EDIT: Change has been made, hopefully less crashing.

Removed GameMe. All the crashes that I investigated had GameMe running something prior to the crash. The plugin has been not really working properly to begin with so we've decided its best to remove it to see first if it helps with crashing and second to potentially replace it with another stats like plugin.

That's really a shame. Hopefully we manage to find the cause of this and will be able to get it fixed asap, as it starts to become a serious issue, which has a lot of impact on the server population. The more stable the server will be, the more stable our population will.

From what I can tell it seems the server had some sort of error in between maps like struki said. Could be a number of things. I've only seen this happen a few times. Do you know what map you were going to? That information could be helpful.

It was going to Ze_Dust.Which,coincidentally i asked to be removed since its shit.

IMO, the amount of crashes have decreased by a lot to almost none. I can't remember any moment ever since gameME was removed that the server has crashed. Server is filled most of the days and I haven't experienced any crashes myself yet. Which is also one of the reasons why we're boosting up in the server rankings list again. We're at 28th.

That's what we were expecting. Theres always a chance for a few glitches to slip in. Thats what I am thinking could be at play the other day. There are a lot of plugins on the server so its always possible something to start acting up. Its good to know things are getting better.

EDIT:

Well theres an entire log that has zero data then the log after looks like its started after the crash recovery. I really can't tell what happened without the log that I am assuming contains that map events. We'll have to have keep at it and see if it happens again.

I'd say the entire VPN was restarted then. Probably done by the host.

Indicates this plugin is malfunctioning. A look at the logs says it malfunctions A LOT and with the same error REPEATEDLY throughout the day.

zr_screamfix.sp is not in the sourcemod/addons/scripting/ folder for the ZE server, even if it was I would not know how to fix it. I highly suggest Pan32 looks into this. It looks like even when this error happens, the server doesn't always crash, but it's always happening right when it does.

I would think then we may be missing a file somewhere, which is possible when files got moved. When I get home tonight I'll see if I can track down that file.

The error is harmless at all. It is not at all whats causing the crashes, i can assure you that.

I got some data from the crashes, but there seems to not be any real reason for it. My guess is something deep down on zr.

It was no glitch someone ran a command they shouldn't have that caused it. Its probable that this caused ZR to crash, then the server.

That log doesn't even exist, but nothing also came up on another log that shows other commands. Not really sure on that one. Any more details you guys can remember would be helpful.

Tonight we did a small change with a model, I believe, that could be causing issues. Hopefully we'll be a bit more stable, but we have a few more ideas of what could be causing them if this doesn't smooth things out.

That was in console just before, probably Mako specific problems though




MAYBE not related, but earlier on Frostdrake it had major lag issues. Not the map as we've played before just fine.

Perhaps just http://www.steamgamers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59654 can we please just try this out and see if it stops the crashes atleast? We generally also had 11 votes against 4. Crashes are really the biggest thing thats holding us back from #1.

Also FYI we've always had this setting on the CSS ZE server.

Problem is that we cannot confirm that any of this is the direct cause. I've seen crashes happen mid rounds. We are all equally frustrated over the crashes. However, we do not want to go willy-nilly changing things without proper proof its cause. We've disabled game-me and another plugin that was always the culprit in about 97% of the crashes. I would not suggest we make changes for something that happens half the time. In all honesty, it is a very real possibility with the move to the VPN we will continue to see these crashes because of a lack of resources. Before we had plenty of resources, now we are limited. Yes these crashes suck and I wish there was more we can do to prevent them. But with the evidence I've been looking over for the past 2-3 weeks, I believe we have taken enormous strides in the reduction of crashes this server has seen. Yeah it may prove a problem to increase server population, but you know I am still proud that the server went from 1500+ to around 30 in rank. Thats a significant jump in a short time.

TL;DR: We can't prove the respawn is the problem as it also happens mid round and with out a mass respawn.

But Spiked isn't it worth just a shot? We can change it back if it does not solve the problem. The crashes may have decreased but its still occurs occasionally enough to be our biggest problem. If we can't find the main problem here then the reality of the situation is to unfortunately do a bit of experimenting.

You also talked about resources, what exactly do you mean, is there something we can do to get more resources? Why would we move to VPN if there's less resources there?

Experimenting has always been a bad thing when trying to deal with a problem. It has been my experience that just trying things without real justification usually doesn't help and often makes it worse. That's my reasoning for not wanting to give it a go. I like to have solid things to go on and not flimsy ones.

The resources thing has to do with our decision to try to save some money. We "downsized" from a dedicated server to a VPN. About all we could do at this point is add more memory to it, but that really wouldn't guarantee it either. What has been troubling is that our other servers don't seem to experience it. So again, another flimsy thing.

Not every crash will be preventable. Not every crash could have a reason (that we can find). It has been what I've seen is the server crashes, then comes back with in a minute or 2 of the crash. Now if it stayed down then that would be a different problem. What can help is telling people its back up after crashes, I'd be for more "annouoncements" in steam group for that.

Not a crash but when we switched maps to ze_breakable we went from 40 players to 9 players. I was one of the people that got disconnected, so did 30 others as I doubt that amount leave in an impulsive manner. It said missing map.

Yeah got called in by XtremeMadness about it. Nothing I could do at the time but try and repopulate it via Frostdrake.

For sure map download issue that we've not had before though ( I managed to D/l the map fine during tests and previous playthroughs )

If multiple things goes down its definitely the host. Hopefully it didn't stay down too long.

There was a critical security issue found with Xen and all servers needed to be restarted for the fix to be applied. All VPS servers got restarted at NFO - including ours.

ze_farmhouse_v9 has an insane amount of lag... the 3 times I've played the map twice it's crashed, and this time it's lagging insanely

I havent been on the server to see what maps etc. were causing it, but its got worse apparently :(

Hey admins, EVERY TIME when i play ze_space_ stationzz, after i jump into the locker from the bricks in the xwing path, my csgo crashed to desktop immediately. Is there a way to fix it?

TBH, the server is crashing often enough that I wonder if logged every crash I witness is helpful or not at this point?

It really isn't. We cannot seem to sort out this issue as far as I know? I don't know if these logs are actually helping.

I'll refrain from updating, however if that changes and you want info from us, let us know.

It's amazing that we have a top 10 server that is crashing regularly. I wouldn't be surprised if we could have a rank 1 server if it weren't for the crashes.

It's amazing that we have a top 10 server that is crashing regularly. I wouldn't be surprised if we could have a rank 1 server if it weren't for the crashes.

I know yesterday (Tuesday) we had a bunch of crashes that we did pin-point the problem and rectified the problem. Prior to that, there was nothing in the logs that was correlating with crash times. Could be a number of outside factors including things we cannot control. Best we can do is hope to minimize things and when things start to happen often with consistency, as we saw on Tuesday, then we can probably look closer at it.

Yup. We have even logged everything in the server not just errors to see if anything that wouldn't be considered an error would be the problem.

This may be very important: Everytime I've played ze_biohazard_manor, the server has crashed, check that map out. If it was me, I'd get rid of it no questions asked.

Ahh that sucks. Would it be viable to disable the plugins one by one? Possibly find out if a plugin is an issue

Moo Moo Viking i had the same problem couple of weeks ago on a different map.
So when i joined i quickly tried to change the map from the admin menu or in the console with a admin command to a well known map.
