So I had the idea yesterday, and since i've already given up on the ZE contest I figured I might as well put the skills i learned into this map.

The Plan

So this hasn't really been done before AFAIK so its a venture into the dark.

I intend to make it so each round lasts around 8-9 minutes and forces the round to end around then by bringing the remaining survivors together.

I intend to bring as much from the book series into the map as possible, starting from the platforms and the cornucopia bloodbath, and climaxing with a Mutt driven finale. The feasts will also be included. This means the arena will be full of traps etc. to contend with, including fire, pitfalls, NPC's and not to mention the other players.

Since i'm designing this to be for the SG MG server theirs a lot of competitors, with I believe 46 launchpads right now.

Sadly progress will be slow as I haven't used Hammer SDK in a long while, but it will get there eventually.

As a teaser, here is the launchpad area for now. Theres no Cornucopia just yet as I intend to do that in Max. All the platforms raise up and have you wait 20 seconds before beginning. So make sure not to wander off, or you will be blown up :D

Looks cool, just a suggestion you should add the voice overs like in the movie and the screen if possible and random parachute loots to help people out kinda thing. Good Luck cant wait to try it out.

Hey.

I was planning on getting the voice work in on the countdown ( Although annoyingly it goes away between 0 and 20 seconds. There was a big ticking clock in there to also display that info but the logic was messing up so i cut it out and instead i'm going to add in a nice animated texture.

Already got plans for parachute drops as well :D Probably a host of custom weapons and/or medical healing.

One of the big challenges I have that i haven't figured out is how to keep spectators entertained. Once you die, you could be out for 8-9 minutes, which could get boring fast. Can't really respawn them to watch given the size of the place, and can't exactly turn them into gamemakers as that wouldn't work out too well.

I'm not sure how well such a gamemode would fair in CSS. Having said that though this definitely sounds interesting, and I look forward to trying it out once you start to playtest the map.

Might I suggest respawning players in a designated lounge area? A room with a large screen for those who wish to continue watching the games as well as a couple minigames such as Tic Tac Toe and soccer for those who are easily bored. Keep in mind I know nothing about mapping and I'm sure such a room would add unnecessary size to the map and might not even be possible to begin with.

I have had this idea in mind a couple of months ago but I stopped working on it because I wanted to use swords and arrows and so on instead of fire arms. If you are going to use fire arms then I thinks it's all right because there is no other way. I have had couple of ideas for the map so if you need my assistance in ideas/technics to make the gameplay more enjoyable you could ask.

The only way this map will sucseed is if its well done and works 100%. I think that the hungergames mod for minecraft is awesome, maybe get some inspiration from it.

And it would be cool if thos who are dead could give one player a gift, the spectator have to choose one player. After giving that player a gift you cant spectate anyone but that player.

And i feel this map would work best at night where its dark and easy to sneak around and assasinate a player and take his gun.

I'm gonna throw a few suggestions and concerns out there
Suggestions:
1: Make the starting HP 500, giving the players a easier survival chance at the very start.
2: Turn block on, making it harder to get backstabs in, and each fight more difficult and risky.
3: Make each gun only start with the core ammo (ex. M4A1, 30 ammo, P90, 50 ammo etc.), to remove balance problems.
Concerns:
1: Even with what I said, balance problems are inherent when using guns instead of melee/ranged weapons as shown in the books/movies
2: Players who die aren't willing to wait 9+ minutes to play another round when that's the only thing you can do on the server, thus killing population :(

If I could make a suggestion, if someone dies and it's too long until the game ends, you could have them spawn as being invisible and have no weapons also no awps, and as bow and arrows have the scouts

Yea this would be cool, fully invisible with no way to interact with "alive" players
