No idea Please state your problem here
Well, I'm having issues booting up my parents Dell computer. They wanted me to put some Antivirus on, so i installed AVAST.

After installation I restarted comp and it was fine.

They decided they wanted the full version without paying for it, you know what I mean.

So I downloaded full version, then used a keylogger. That was when the issue started, the key logger must of been a virus.

I can't boot up in safemode or any other booting attempts (Last best setting etc)

I tried using the Windows XP Disk - Recovery Console, these are the commands I tried;

chkdsk /r (For some reason, /F wouldn't work, doesn't recognise command etc)

So yeah, I don't really want to re-install Windows (again...) you guys have any ideas?

Thanks all.

Looks like you good sir might have a boot sector virus
I just googled the error given from BSOD and based on the info given it sounded to me like that is what you got
I included the link just in case it is not a virus but is another issue please read
Microsoft Support 0x07b BSOD Error (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103)
If you have any restore points or backups now would be the time to implement them if not
Try a different anti-virus to remove it (microsoft has a completely free version for all legit users of the win OS'es[i think not sure bout xp though] so you might want to try that to avoid more viruses)
-or-
wipe the hard drive clean and do a new install
also please make sure it is a virus before trying what I posted in case it is not a virus I don't like the idea of messing up some one else comp because I was wrong

First off you mean keygen not keylogger. a Keygen generates keys for software, a keylogger logs all keystrokes on the target machine. So if you installed a keylogger yeah you basically installed a virus. That being said if it was a keygen then the easiest way to see if its a virus is to put the hard drive in an external case and plug it into another (working) computer where you can use malwarebytes on it like its an external drive.

Also don't pirate antivirus software, it's f#@%ing retarded. That stuff works on a subscription and constant updating and most viruses come from... lets call it less than legitimate software. Just use malwarebytes, it's free to begin with.

yeah sorry keygen...

Hey, my dad wanted the "full downloaded" software, I said it was kinda pointless because you don't get any updates but he didn't listen.

I think I'll load up ubuntu using USB, then scan comp using malwarebytes.

Thanks, just what I needed, a different point of view.

Try a different anti-virus, maybe. just because malware doesn't pick it up doesn't mean another one won't
although it doesn't mean it will either
if this doesn't work I will officially be out of ideas

and also all keygens I have seen don't need to be installed in order to run so to me seeing a keygen asking to be installed instantly sets off the "OMG!! VIRUS!! DELETE THIS $**T" alarm in mah brains. As a general precaution, it may sound lame and repetitive but it works, only install stuff from trusted providers, sites, etc.

Sorry for the lecture but my inner computer safety nerd took over :(

Tell me about it man. I've used lots of "keygens" on my comp, which 90% where probably viruses, but I've never had an issue like this before.

Hey, looks like I learn't my lesson!
