I want you to do two things. First thing is a screen shot of task manager.

Open Task Manager
Go to the Processes Tab
Make sure that the 'Show processes from all users' box is checked
Maximize the window, then the 'Image name' and 'Description'
Sort by Memory
Take a Screenshot

Second, I would like you to download hijack this and post a log.

Download HijackThis (http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe)
When you run the executable choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'
That will pop up a notepad full of info, copy pasta it here with the screen shot of processes

P.S. If you post false or useless information I will delete your post. Please do not ask people to just look at their processes or registry and start deleting things.

I'm not surprised, win7 uses about a gig and a half by default just to itself and it's little processes.

WHAT?

my netbook on windows 7 has 2gb and only uses 800MB-1GB for itself. makes me wonder what kind of AV they are using.

You should add more memory anyways. 4GB is pretty much the standard these days. That and Win7 is a memory hog.
