iirc port forwarding has more to do with your router than anything else. What are you using?

Interesting I've got one of those UFO linksys routers, port forwarding is literally as simple as dialing in, going to the port forwarding page, and just typing the port numbers in.

or if you're too lazy to find your router, http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT120N/WRT120Nindex.htm

anyone who blames vista for problems is showing their ignorance clearly.

... How does it not work? Are you dialing into the router and putting in the settings but they aren't sticking? Are they sticking but is the program not working?

Go to the command prompt and type: ipconfig /all

Write down your internal IP (Should be something like 192.168.1.102). Write down your default gateway (Should be something like 192.168.1.1). Close out, or minimize, your command prompt and open your browser.

Go to http://<ip address of default gateway>
If you are prompted to log in, leave the username blank and type 'admin' in the password (no quotes). If that does not work, try admin/admin as the login/password or 'admin' and no password.
Click on Applications & Gaming.
Click on Single Port Forwarding.
Type in the port, finish off the IP with your internal one, and enable it.
Click Save Settings.

Done.

download PFFConfig, PortForwards.com own Automatic portforwarder, just put in your Router and what program you wanna Port Forward and click "Update Router"

You can also Make your own Port to Forward, you hit "Customize" and add the port either TCP/UDP then hit next then Forward that application then "Update Router"
