football is BORING. A sport where the players roll around on the floor, at the slightest touch, complaining of injuries that don't exist.... fascinating. i think i'd rather watch paint dry tbh.

rugby VS american football... this is the way forward.

Fair enough, you can't really call rugby fans gay if you're a football fan.

Usually people who like rugby don't like football...and the other way round.

Football is still a contact sport to an extent, and most of us who play don't dive around.

It wasn't really easy for me to get into rugby.....the area I live in were the only cunts in the whole country who didn't allow rugby in school....so it was only tag rugby....:ohwell: Basically it consists of no contact and you have two tags on your waist....if you lose a tag (or it might be both I forget) then you have to pass it. Pretty lame.

Red

Yeah I played Rugby in high school, I was a lock. We thought the American football kids were fegs since they wore pads and no other schools in Singapore played it, they played against themselves with their 2 whole teams.

The girls teams were the only ones that played tag, lol.

Well that's because the NFL is out of season, so is the NHL, NBA... doesn't have a game during the time slot and the MLB is meh. You're right in that it will be on later but I highly doubt it would take precedence over a "real" "American" sport.

The thing is.....when are these NFL and NBA games played? If there played in the evening.....a typical World Cup game for you would be between early morning and midday to afternoon and wouldn't clash.

I'm sure in certain parts of America you'll have places where football is more popular than it probably is in North Carolina.

There are a few places in Corvallis you can catch MLS games on.

I know most bars will have World Cup playing no matter what. Especially for USA games. In 2006, I remember the sports bars in town filled up with people watching World Cup Soccer.

I' would watch USA Soccer in the World Cup over Monday Night Football any day of the year. (Or every 4.)

I'm not doubting the fact that the World Cup is going to be broadcast in the US. It is a fact that soccer is not as popular as almost every other 'American' sport that is shown on ESPN, etc. The World Cup will probably be shown on some obscure channel like ESPN 8 the Ocho.

And it's America as a whole that doesn't have a huge affinity for soccer, not just North Carolina. =P

ESPN will air 44 FIFA World Cup matches from South Africa – the most ever for the network in one tournament. ESPN2 will feature 10 matches. ABC will broadcast 10, beginning with the U.S. Men’s National Team’s tournament opener vs. England on Saturday, June 12, at 2 p.m. ET in Rustenburg. The tournament will conclude on ABC with the title match Sunday, July 11, at 1:30 p.m. ET from the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.

Coverage will begin Friday, June 11, on ESPN, ESPN360.com and ESPN Mobile TV, with the tournament’s opening match at 9:30 a.m. from the Soccer City in Johannesburg, host country South Africa versus Mexico. Word to big bird.

And for all of you that can even think that USA will win.Sir,you have greatest imagination i have ever seen.

Actually there are more nations that participate in the world cup than in the olympics.

Stats:

Germany World Cup Finals 2006:

The 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany had a total cumulative television audience of 26.29 billion (24.2 billion in-home and 2.1 billion out-of-home viewers).

Bejing Olympics 2008:

According to the statistics, Beijing Olympic Games 2008 has seen excellent growth in the number of television viewers which reached a record 4.7 billion for the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, 20% increase compared to the television viewer of 2004 Athens Games.

Superbowl 2010:

Super Bowl XLIV, played in February 2010, became the most-watched American television program ever, drawing an average audience of 106.5 million viewers.

Thanks and goodfight.

TL;DR

The world cup finals is the greatest sporting finals of all time.

I think its rather funny how you yanks feel that by drawing a game, we have therefore lost our chances of making it to the finals.

Playing bad in a game is one thing, being consistantly bad in the others is a different matter. Like I said we have to play algeria and slovenia, two much worser sides that the US. So we will have to see.

You guys can get back to your egg chasing now for another 4 years.

I though it was slow... it feels to me that when one team doesnt go all out in inhibits the other team from giving what they really got..

it almost felt like they were holding back I really dont like these games...

On another note anyone saw the french game where the Uruguayan spent half the game on the ground lurking fouls... pretty pathetic.. and playing with 6 defense....
I just whish I could breaking the fucking refs legs....

It was a bit of a stale mate. England were trying hard but America sat back and made it hard.

Lol only someone pro-France would say that.

France were terrible......terrible line up, terrible tactics.....terrible manager! Most of the players were very poor such as Gourcuff....although the defensive side of France were good.

Uruguay weren't cheating or anything, I think they just defended really well and didn't let you have many chances.

Yes.

I'm not being a hypocrite, I never criticised USA for their style of play :suspicious:

Yes.

I'm not being a hypocrite, I never criticised USA for their style of play :suspicious:

they had a good defense never said the contrary...
half their players spent most the game on the ground...its not me when the fucking announcer says they are really going after it when one of the player falls...

we got 3 yellow cards 2 of which were complete crap, like 13 fouls total...I dont think we watched the same game.... cause anyone with a brain would have seen that

most european country play like that now and its just frustrating... look at italy, partugal, some spanish players...I was just really surprised it came from Uruguay tbh

fucking germany got 2 yellows..

Look at a french match and tell me when you see them fall..

One french player got so annoyed he jumped got his foul stood up and laughed looking at the coach or somebody...

and if you say england tried hard during that game... say bye bye to the cup

I think england attack was well bellow par and as bad as france if not worst...

our defense sucked and we got lucky we didnt get scored against...if we can fix that we'll have a great team

that wont change the fact that simulation is a problem and im glad some ref can see it... if the same ref that was in the german game was at the french game these guys would have gotten multiple red cards..

Perhaps your goalie can join us in the egg chasing.

Would help him with his hand-eye coordination.

Oh and, LOL U MAD?!

Sorry mate, but last I knew I was ENGLISH, not British.

Unfortunately since England is part of Britain you are British as well as English. The two are not mutually exclusive as many of you would like to think.

At least England didn't fuck up as badly as this guy:

We're not retarded, we know we're British citizens but we'd rather not be called British.
