The story:
You begin in a bunker and you have to make your way to the city. Once in the city, dodge buildings, and others.
You'll have to walk in into a large building to get acces to the airplane. There are several alternatives and holdspots.
Once inside the plane, humans should go inside the cockpit, zombies inside the cargo.
A bit later, they will crash into a snow area and they will have to make their way to the sea where the ark is.
The ark is the final fight.

I've worked on other collaboration projects before, and I suggest you to PLAN out the map *blueprints (a detailed sketch will do, so people can elaborate on your ideas and layout)
After you got that brain stormed, Divide that into scenes/sections. Then let people choose what they will create. Finally provide a vmf box on how the section size should be.

Damn. I finished spawn etc. Guess how big my map is ?
I only have a spawn, but all custom.

My spawn is already 24MB... cba i'll redo the textures -.-


Here's my blueprint atm:
I just drawed the big lines.
Everything what is transparent red is finished.
So Spawn is finished, and now i'm working on that small graveyard.
The displacements cliffs could be the most work of all.

Looks good, but it doesn't accurately reflect the movie at all. Not sure if you've seen it, or want the map to look like that though.

Spawn should be a bunker in a building.
You have to get out maybe with in 30-40 secs.
When you get outside you are in the street with 4-5 different ways.
Each path have traps that might kill you, like fire,holes and falling rocks.
After that you have to get on the big ass Russian plane, at the hanger door the back door
you got to hold off for 30-60 seconds. After the door shuts the plane fly's off and crashes in a snow area. you got to climb a hill to the ark and run though the ark to the control bay.
When your in the bay you got to hold the zombies off until the door shuts.
Than the inside of the ark fills with poison water or fire to kill the zombies.

The end

^^^ but if there were more areas to cross and it being a big map with plently of ways and parts/sections would be good.

Ok, the 1st part is inside a underground bunker.
You get outside and run though the city street with maybe random fire, pitfalls ect.
you make it into a underground passway and there will be a few ways to get out.
The long simple one will fill with water and the water will stay up for about 60hp worth dmg.
After that it opens.

The other ones are small passage ways with traps.
Near the end you have to hold off, while 1-3 people or the whole team go to open the door
with the password. after that you get on the plane and pick a room.
You have to protect the door by not letting other zombies in.
But the fact it, the doors are facing each other so your team and shoot the zombie inside.
When you get to land, you take the exit from the inside of the plane, a small vent that opens and take that to get outside.
There should be a small delay for zombies like a glass door coming down to a zombie vent or something.

You run to the bunker and hold off

I was thinking. The city itself will also have many brushes. Im not an expert in this, but can you make the ark a model afterwarts ? Good luck with it tho.

So We already got a bunker, i'll try and make a part of the city now with 3 different ways.

Another thing: A custom skybox is a must !

maybe chance to go by chopper? the part where they see the choppers with the animals under it and the russian fattyboy and his sons leave the beautiful russian lady all by herself with maniacs...

Any tracks takes lots of enddata. I was thinking of teleports. But everyone in another teleport.
Then you get in a small plane(x50 planes, 1 for each player) and you see sky moving. (animated texture).
I'll try to work this out and see if this can be small in size. Otherwise, I'll keep it simple.

Btw, is it ok if I take some buildings of Half-Life for the city, or should I make them myself ?
I know, this will be seen as lazy(wich I am) but it doesn't change the gameplay and the buildings in halflife are (properly xD) better made.

Almost noone answered to my pm, so it seemed that you don't have any interests anymore.
I need 3 mappers for any of those jobs:



JOB 1: TAKEN!
Anyways, is any mapper up too make a large building(appartement maybe) with 3 entrances(& different ways) and you need to get to the top floor-> roof. Also make hold spots etc. In Progress by President Shadow

JOB 2: Available!
Also I need another mapper to make a small plane, only cockpit(as less brushes and as small as possible because it will get copied 50 times) The small cockpit won't move but an animated texture will.
So with an texture wich will look like the plane is acually moving.
Search google pics for "F-16" If you could get a model like that or make something like that would be awsome.
I need 1x cockpit no outside brushes except wings and an animated texture. and i need 1x the whole plane.

JOB 3: Available!
The next step is a snow area. I have not yet many ideas for this yet.
Altho it could be nice if someone wants to make a snowstorm =D
(don't make the plane here wich crashed, but do make a teleport_destination where you want players to spawn in that area.) Also, you need to see the 'road'. A snowstorm like in mw2 could be inspiration.

Probably with displacements (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Displacement) and func_precipitation (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Func_precipitation) density on maximum.

Be aware of the following:


Major glitches:

If the precipitation is too dense, causing more then 32000 vertices visible at once, it will cause a fatal crash. Dense precipitation is possible, but in sparsely populated areas.
If you have rain and water in the same map, make sure they are positioned so that the rain does not go into the water. This has not been verified as a crash-causing glitch, but by preventing this, you can avoid more serious glitches.
Make sure your rain stays within your map. Rain and snow fall some ways below the end of your func_precipitation, and as such could fall out of your map. This has been noted as causing a map lock-up, yet does not create a compile glitch. So, it is worth checking if you have precipitation in your map.
If you use a func_smokevolume brush under your func_precipitation, make sure that there is enough space in between, so that the precipitation, as it falls down, doesn't enter the smoke volume below. If it does, the map will stop loading at the end of the progress bar (there are no compile errors).

Minor glitches:

Sometimes, when a func_precipitation is next to a thin enough wall, the rain or snow will fall through the wall and into your building. Since func_precipitation is a cosmetic entity, this has no effect on gameplay.
The density keyvalue is based on the volume of the individual func_precipitation. Because of this, having several func_precipitations of varying sizes with the same densities can create a varying rain intensity. This is not a glitch, but can be difficult to alter exactly. In this case, a good guess will have to do. You can, of course, calculate the volumes of the individual func_precipitations, by multiplying length, height and depth of each and compare the results.
If there is a point_camera entity active in a map containing rain, it will generally cause the rain to not render at all. This can be verified in game using the r_rainprofile 1 cmd. A work around for this is to of course disable any cameras when a player is to see rain, (add an I/O trigger: OnTrigger camera_name SetOff) --tehwin 17:20, 6 March 2009 (PDT)

like LOTRO maps , they have been split up to

I know how ZE is and i know how ppl fail , and the beginning looks thesame as some other maps where 3/4 rounds at the beginning every1 gets zombified

I made a Deathline both for NeJi and President Shadow to send me the .vmf files this sunday.
I don't see much activity tho but If they don't give me their part, I'll make the map further myself.
And Bob's deathline is next week. So the map will probably be finished around february if I received all parts.

Going to bring PC home this weekend, and hopefully get some mapping done, (Haven't done any in agessss :\) Just have to work on the ark part and it should be g2g (good2go)

Thats good to hear. Can't wait till you guys finish it all. Map looks like it could be a hit.

There is no rush to get it done I know programming can take some time depending on what your doing. Its always better to take a little more time to ensure everything comes out good than moving a little quicker and have problems however minor.

Updated. Look at the front page for updates of pictures.

Now I can start again progressing this map, still hell shit a lot to do with not much time.
What will we do from now on:


Fixing little time consuming things in the city
Remaking the appartment building
Making a second part during the snowstorm
Making extra little things (secrets & secret weapons xD )
Making the ark
Linking everything together and make it fit together
Finding Bugs & solve them.
The last but not least: Optimize.


My goal is to finish this map around February(I'm picking up my social life again and I won't be much available in weekends, neither in a schoolweek because of my homework).

Looks great guys........just one question mapper......is this map leaning towards the run and dont look back?..........or is it more like the older maps where more chokepoints and zombie shooting besides the major chokepoints?

Well there is ofc going to be running, but there are also a few hold points. I would guess there will be.... 5-6 hold points? Map should take I'm guessing somewhere between 4-6 minutes to complete?

Updated. Every part has been pasted to eachother already, except the snowstorm and the ark.
If Neji comes out with his second part, than I can glue them together xP
(The snowstorm and the ark are an diferrent area.)

I'm going to compile those parts I have already. Leaks have been fixed and other compile log errors.
Update(more info + pics) may follow when I'm done compiling. (or later tonight)

After all this, the beta-period will do his entrance. So that means we can start testing on the server.

EDIT:

Alright done compiling. That Vvis is a bitch, I had to stop it because it was already running for an hour an a half.
Total compile time: About 2 hours right now.

Bah Hammer fucking crashed my whole computer. I was working on that snowpart and I just finished, I tried to save it but my laptop shut down...
I restarted it and everything what I've done today is gone. Pfft this makes me pissed to lose 6 hours of mapping.

I've quikly redone it, it's now a bit less good than it used to be but it's ok now ^^ Thanks tho.
Gonna compile that snow and the ark together and then the beta test can continue on wednesday or Friday.

EDIT: All compile errors are gone. Now I'm going to inspect the map for glitches and link everything together tomorrow.

I need some other textures for the spawn, the current textures are 1.5 mb each (that's Huge). And please keep it around the same.

Updated. If I can compile this correctly and if no more glicthes will be found, the beta version should be released tomorrow.
