2-0 over Spain

3-0 over Egypt

Amazing...and I've made derogatory comments towards soccer in the past but now that the US team is playing well I throw my full support behind them and say that the rest of the world should watch out because the US is back and they're :censored:

It's UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE, It's either bribery or the luck of Neo from Matrix (how he magically dodges bullets)

Really, It's just luck, It'll soon be over and USA will go back to their crappy ass time as usual

Congrats! and you left Beasley and Adu on the bench!

Jozy Altidore looks a quality prospect (much more than Adu did)

helps you have a high-standard keeper as well in Howard

I love how like no one likes football(soccer) in USA and when you win two games in a row you just hop right on that bandwagon.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Not all of us hated on futebol ("soccer") before. I do like to see the US men win some every now and then. However if you look through the previous football threads you'll find that I follow a few Brasilian futebol clubs. Palmeiras, Vasco da Gama to name a few.

Problem is .. that here in the US soccer is primarily a women's sport (once you get past the age of 16) Note: that the US Womens team has done well for quite some time. Gold in the last 2 Olympics for example. Football "soccer" is gaining popularity here and if winning a few games helps that I'm all for it.

I'm not so sure that national pride should be considered hopping on a bandwagon either.

I like soccer, just not local American soccer.

I love the world cup/international cups that pit country against country.

Seeing the Los Angeles queens play the Florida tanned whores doesn't make a fuck of a difference to me.

Futebol = South America (specifically Brasil)
Football = EU
Soccer = US :usa2:

I'm sure it's called other things as well... :blink:

But futebol is just their Spanish translation where as soccer doesn't translate to football ;) Although I'm pretty sure a name of a sport should be Universal :confused:

Oh well

trust me itch, i think most people alive would rather soccer be called football and us football to be called like tackle ball or something that has to do with the sport.

It used to be called Gridiron. Maybe it was too manly of a name.

They call it football because it was derived from soccer and kicking the ball was a major part of the game. Since it is very different than what it originally was, just call it American Football or Gridiron and stop whining.

Its Brazil, so I am going to say the US will have no chance. Hopefully, that will bring luck it did against Spain.

However, since people might actually care about the sport for 5 seconds now, the US team might start sucking again.

Brazil will score goals against the USA no doubt they attacking wise are stronger the defenders won't be able to cope.

But they have leaks goals like 3 against Eygpt so you could maybe score a few too....

I wouldn't say that.. For a team that hasn't had a noteworthy performance in this level of competition in a sport that a large part of the population doesn't watch.. I'd say they held their own. 3-2 in the final against a team like Brasil where the national past-time is Futebol and they kids are practically born with a ball at their feet I don't think we did so bad at all.

Plus I was torn as to who to root for. I wanted the US to win because I am a patriot and it would be nice for them to win something on the global scale. At the same time I've lived in Brasil, speak Portuguese, and wouldn't be surprised if I had an illegitimate child living somewhere in Brasil. So I consider it my second home country. Either way it was a good game.

Given my bias against soccer I'd be the first to jump on the team and call it fail if it was. But it's not.

Hopefully the US will stop being eliminated so early in major soccer tournaments. It's pathetic to see the US escorted out of the first round of the World Cup without winning a SINGLE game.

i agree and personally this gives many of us USA soccer players a chance to admire USA soccer and hope to god we get to the quarter finals at worst. I really do hope we do well in the world cup because it would be a shame if we didn't. GO USA :usa2:
