Bungie mentioned that they wouldn't use the story arc from the earlier games. I don't think they mentioned that they would stop using the entire storyline though.

Nah, Reach like Halo Wars is a Halo game that goes back in time of the Halo time-line. Instead of having a sequel featuring the Master Chief they're doing a prequel to Halo 1. Reach was a heavily fortified "military" planet that was totally ass raped by the Covenant. Just like Earth was one of the most important planet's to the humans, UEG, and UNSC. If this game is going by the book I'm pretty sure it's featuring the rest of the Spartans of the UNSC which in Halo 1,2,3,ODST are missing because they're dead.

They just featured ODST on G4, E3 Live stuff, and it looks compelling. I like the 4 person co-op that is in the works.

I'm not sure about ODST, why would the shock troopers have access to technology that the spartans, Earth's greatest weapon, don't.

If they play their cards right with reach I can imagine it being fucking awesome.

The Spartan II's haven't been up to date because of the near destruction of their group on Reach (as well as most R&D for Spartan II's). There hasn't been too much development besides what the MC gets in Halo 2 because the UNSC was developing the Spartan III's, which were somewhat more hi-tech, just not as thoroughly trained. They were designed as a more short term approach than the Spartan II's and you can bet to see the more recent technology in their systems (like ODSTs which would be constantly updated) rather than the older Spartans. This is probably the only way to explain it I think.

I was leaning towards not getting ODST. But now that I've seen it looks decent(it doesn't look like anything special) I'll be picking it up. Mostly because of the Reach Beta included.

ya bungue has said alot of things and it was said in game informer forgot which month july/august? but it was said odst would be the last
