I just saw this last night. It's about a guy who is ex-military or homeland security (he describes himself as a "preventer). He has been seperated from his daughter for practically his whole life. He tries to make it up to her by seeing her often. She asks his permission to go to Paris with a friend and the friends cousins. He very cautiously agrees. The dad finds out at the airport that shes not only going to Paris, but touring around Europe with U2. Hes mad. When she finally gives him a call, he's trying to hold back his temper. Suddenly, she starts crying and says that there are people in the hotel.

Now he must save her.

Greatest movie I've seen in about 1-2 years tbh.

I just went to see it to kill time a few months ago, and it ended up being the best movie i've seen in theaters in a while.

yeah this movie was really, really good.
the way he was so brutal with the people he killed reminded me of the action in the Bourne series (which are some of my favorite movies of all time)
:)

It was really good. Wasn't far-fetched AND, my favorite part, it didn't drag on. Most movies try and add more plots and twists but with this one, it stuck, making it relatively short but that's not a negative, more of a positive. I hate extremely long movies (THE WATCHMEN).

I went to a friends house and they we're watching it just at the beginning. I enjoyed it so much that i couldn't turn my eyes from it. I'd give it a 10/10

It sucked!
It's so basic, there isn't any kind of originality in it, so basic, done-before and lame, you could you possibly like it, and the god damn one-liners...... shiit.

done-before and lame.

A former spy divorces from his wife, and wants to get close to his daughter. He lets her go to Europe and she gets kidnapped. The father gets back into action and basically uncovers an entire slave trade and rescues his daughter with no far-fetched junk with extreme adrenaline and all that.

Not original? Just stop. Sounds like you mean originality is supernatural stuff. Name one movie that was like this. Even if you do, I doubt any of them have been executed as good as this one. Oh, and if it's been done before it can't be good right? If you're going to call it lame, give some examples. Why was it lame? What parts did you dislike and why?

Ět's the whole "former super millitary guy get's his/her child kidnapped, then he/she finds them, kills them, bang bang, boom boom, touchy father/daughter reniounen, over!"

Name another one of these movies. He also finds his daughter basically getting sold off to auctioners who are going to abuse her. He wasn't really super military. He WAS a spy but, after that, he was a normal guy (body gaurd).

No offense.. but if you've seen something thousands of times, and your young, how could you not remember what they are..?

Overall great movie, critics gave it nothing but positives

Not trying to say your opinion is wrong, hence "opinion". I just dont agree with the done-before statement. I cant say I've ever seen a movie like this. The plot is quite unique.

isnt Die Hard 4 something like it?

Not really, Taken is a single movie VS Die Hard, there is 3 previous movies.
The movie Die Hard isn't about his Daughter getting kid napped, its about Bruce Willis kicking ass. In 1/4 Die Hards, someone in his family gets kid napped, but Bruce Willis(John Mclain) wasn't a X- Spy/Soldier.

I wouldn't really call them similar

Well I know there was same hard ass kicking like a special ops and some saving of doughter...

Have you watched all 4 Die Hards? In each one they villain always says something along the lines of "Hes just a cop", he never had any military experience, and the movie didn't start with his daughter getting kidnapped like in taken.

When he fights.. there is no style, or techniques, its just punching and tossing, and screaming ^-^

TAKEN-
Daughter gets kidnapped, action sequence begins

DIE HARD-
Terrorists are plotting to crash the US Economy, by hacking into all the defense programs, financial systems, by hiring Hackers, then killing them.

John McClain went to pick up one of these "Hackers", and then the terrorists hit men arrived at the same time to kill the "hacker", more then half way into the movie, his daugher gets kidnapped.

THUS-
The plots are not similar.

O_o I see nothing comparable..?

At what point in taken do you see a organization attempting to crash the whole entire USA? Hiring hackers into each government agency, holding the USA for ransom.

What is similar explain? Other then *girl kid napped* *fighting*

I own every Die Hard, and have seen taken a few times In theaters / online.. I know there is nothing more comparable.

If your going to compare a movie, you can't compare a "Single movie", VS "A chain line"

Die hard isn't a single movie, its 4 different movies. In each movie the always mention something about what happened in the previous movie, it may not even be noticed, or significant but something is always said.

I can't think of a movie to compare to Taken, yes it may seem like a plot you've seen in many movies, but if you think of the movie in a critic point of you, you judge by all aspects, plots, etc then you can't compare it to anything.

Either way, the movie was good, and Die Hard rocked

Exactly.

I just finished watching James Bond Casino Royale and I got so pissed. James had so many times to shoot his enemies but ran after them and finally they were killed by a truck or something. In Taken, the father actually shoots people with no remorse. Finally!

I think I'll re-watch the movie soon.

Yes, it wasn't as though twists and turns were at every corner. The movie was a fairly straight shot stand alone. Amusingly enough though, apparently a sequel is in order.

This had been done before and anyone who wants to try and say it hasn't, should quite trying to take minor details and pretend they are more than what they seemed. The basic plot being: A man's daughter was kidnapped and he is on the path of revenge and hopes for saving her, doesn't shout originality. You can toss around meaningless and insignificant details, but spouse being kidnapped and relative going to save them = more than similar. - Does that not sound just a tad bit like "The damsel in distress"?

I enjoyed this movie. It was a descent kick back and relax, check out the mayhem and action. They have been pumpin out these "foreigners getting kidnapped" types of movies for a little while now, but this is probably the first one I actually considered good. The critics had some mixed reviews from what I saw, but I don't think it is going too far to consider it a descent B rated.

The aspect I really liked about this one specifically, was his neutral and almost cold demeanor/mentality. This guy didn't stop for jack shit; always moved forward and didn't hesitate. Personally, I can respect that and I respect the producers for not trying to drag it out with a bunch of sympathy bull. He is a professional, doesn't stray from the path, and always has his eyes fixed on the goal. Very nice.

Is it just me or does a movie seem to go by sooo much faster when you watch it the second time?

It seems to go by very fast, the kidnappers are dealt with so quickly. My dad watched it twice, I may have to watch it twice, and I've heard a lot of people who loved it so much they needed to watch it at least 8 or more times. 10/10 would watch again and again.
