Unbiased and intuitive, spans all nations. Only takes about 5 minutes.

I forgot my actual scores but it was dead on where Milton Friedman stood on it.

I don't necessarily agree that I fall on the left side of anything, especially regarding business matters, maybe I didn't "strongly" agree with enough items.

I was a notch or two under pope benedict, which I can't get because I pretty much disagreed with any notion of religiosity = morality, but I DID give "Strongly" answers on homosexuality related Q's

Get the fuck out and don't ever come back to it if you don't care much about politics. Are you a fucking idiot? To go into the politics section, post in a political thread, and say you don't care about politics, also include where you live for no apparent reason at all other than to show proof you have no idea what we're talking about.

I've seen some stupid posts, but wow.

please explain Authoritarian,left,right,libertarian

SgtJoo
27 Apr 2010, 02:07pm
please explain Authoritarian,left,right,libertarian

Authoritarian is pro authoritarian government which is: "the form of government based on the principle of requiring obedience to the authority of one person or a small group of people. Other people must be obedient to the will of the government and they have little or no influence over the decisions made by the government."

Libertarian is pretty much the opposite: "Libertarians strongly oppose any government interfering in their personal, family and business decisions."

Left and right are liberal and conservative respectively.

Defining liberal and conservative is much trickier, because there are varying degrees of each. Here's a very basic definition: "a person who favors a political philosophy of progress and reform and the protection of civil liberties "

Basically liberals are pro-change/reform/progress that Obama is touting. They want immigration reform, health care reform, pro-welfare, anti-war, etc. (broad generalizations here, not all liberals feel this way) Not all on the left think the same way, as you go from radicals to moderates there's a big difference.

Liberal media is MSNBC, Huffington Post, etc.

The right (conservatives) are opposed some of the values of the liberals if you couldn't guess. Conservatism in a nutshell: "a political and social philosophy that says that traditional institutions work best and society should avoid radical change. Some conservatives seek to preserve things as they are, emphasizing stability and continuity, while others oppose modernism and seek a return to the way things were."

The right is anti-health care reform (pro privatization in most cases, and again I'm generalizing a lot here), more hawkish (pro-war), anti-welfare and favors laissez-faire economics. That's a fancy french word meaning they don't want government all up in big business (corporations) face. They want hands off government interference in our lives.

Conservative media is well.. Fox News.

This is a very linear chart, but it expresses some of the complexity in the political spectrum:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/36/European-political-spectrum.png/558px-European-political-spectrum.png

Anarchy is total decentralization of government (No strong big government.)
Communism is the collectivization and nationalization of industry (Government takes over the businesses, like China today and the Soviet Union although the Soviet Union wasn't a pure Marxian communist state but I won't get into that here. Suffice to say China and the USSR are diluted forms of communism characterized by collectivization of industries such as agriculture. Think if your government started taking over businesses)
Fascism is militaristic dictatorshipesque (yes I made up a word) states like Nazi Germany (Hitler) and Mussolini (WW II Italy).
Conservative liberalism is just a fancy word for liberals that think more like the conservatives.

If you want to see the true scope of the political spectrum there are more complex diagrams and charts. I'm trying to be neutral and nonpartisan in explaining this lol.

http://library.oakland.edu/tutorials/PoliticalSpectrum/common_images/spectrum.jpg

If you can get past the obscene amount of text, this breaks it down the best:
