Welcome to [THE ANIME Q&A]

Here you will find basic questions and answers accumulated over an amount of time and from other members of the community. Within this post I should supply a list of basic questions and answers regarding general information about Anime and anything and everything related. Hopefully this will clear up an misconceptions, concerns, or simply provide a refresher course for the more veteran fan.

Questions and answers are more than welcome here, but please, take a look at the list before you start posting; this will only save us all the trouble and annoyance of combing through an endless thread of insignificant posts. If you cannot find anything on the list, go ahead and post the question and wait for a response.

Please, this is not a debate club and should refrain from becomming one. If you believe a question deserves to be on the list and can supply a significant answer and response, please don't hesitate to send me a pm; I will be sure to get to it as soon as possible.

Above all, this thread is not a request forum by any means. My recommended anime is in [THE ANIME LIST]; take a moment, check out the list, and before you start asking questions, be sure to read the introductions to fully understand. These are instructions and tutorials that will help you down the line, so don't miss out on it.

Updates should be made shortly.

[Basic Anime Questions and Answers]

Question: Is downloading Anime Online Illegal?
Answer: All forms of unlicensed and distributed anime found online through download, without the consent of the originating company or creator is illegal. If there is consent than of course it isn't illegal; finding the difference between the two is an extremely difficult task though.

Question: Will you provide links to websites that host downloaded anime series, manga, and movies?
Answer: Because of the legal issues I will not do this as of now, but I will try to find any "legal" sites that I can whether they be pay or not and post them in a seperate thread. The answer is No with a maybe clause.

Question: What is Anime?
Answer: Anime is a word that describes a work of animation, mainly originated from Japan.

Question: What is "RAW"?
Ander: RAW is traditionally the term used to describe the original version of an animated series. RAWs do not have subtitles of any kind and do not have any censorships or changes made to them through the handling process of each countrie's laws and regulations.

Question: What is a fansub?
Answer: A fansub is typically a translated anime series, movie, or OVA. A fansub usually includes the RAW version with applied subtitles (English mostly), provided by a Fansub group, that will allow fans to read what is happening in the series.

Question: Is Anime just for kids?
Answer: This is a common misconception, just one of many when concerning anime. Anime is not just for kids and in fact, caters to any age group or taste.

Question: Is anime all porn?
Answer: No. As mentioned before, Anime can cater to any age or taste and within this aspect, anime does house a specific genre for this particular group, called Hentai.

Question: Will I see any hentai in this forum or the [Anime List]?
Answer: No. SG does not support or distribute hentai, nor will you find hentai in the Anime List. There will be adult nature themes, foul language, and perhaps scarce nudity, but there will never be 18+ material hosted here.

Question: What is "Genre"?
Answer: Genre is a one word term describing the category in which a specific series falls under.

Question: Where do I find the descriptions of a basic Genre list?
Answer: You can find it in the second post of "The Anime List"; link is provided below.
Link: http://www.steamgamers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13907

Question: Are the anime shows I see on TV at home (not living in Japan) really that different than the original aka "RAW"?
Answer: Yes. Because of laws and regulations for each country, what you see on television is the reformatted and changed version of the original. These changes could include different voices, different dialogue, censoring blood, violence, sex, inuendo, foul language, art design, titles, names of characters, and only a fraction of the actually number of episodes in the series, etc..

Question: Are the series, movies, and OVA you posted in [The Anime List] actually good?
Answer: Yes. We all have our own opinion of course, but every series in there has been through a strict screening process that I made. Although the link provided with each title has a ranking system, it is fairly bias. I chose those titles based on not only my own tastes, but those of others, multiple ranking systems that showed each series was atleast 7/10 stars or higher, and that each recieved high praise or awards from actual critics. I don't enjoy watching crap myself, so trust me when I say most if not all, will hold some merit of interest for you.

Question: Will you be updating [The Anime List] frequently?
Answer: No, sadly. My objective was not to give you the best damn anime titles you have ever or will ever come across. You can say this is merely a stepping stone that will allow you the opportunities and resources to find your own likes and dislikes. It will be updated, I guarentee you that, but it won't be on a quick regular basis.

Check out the [Anime List] and look for anything that has the categories "Romance, Love, or Action". As I said before, each series will list quite a few categories of interest beside them along with a link to the same info or more. Just so you know, damn near any series out ther involves action and love. Check out [The Anime List], write down a few names, check out the site links with each one, and then go after what you want.

I know my introductions are a bit lengthy, but I ask that you read and pay attention to each each one as if they were a fascinating instructional video tutorial. The Anime Q&A is not an anime request forum by any means and although I do not mind helping, if the answers already lie at your feet, I suggest looking down instead of forward.

Understanding what genre you are looking for, or the mix of genre, can allow you to search on other databases, by yourself, if the number of series I provided in [The Anime List] aren't enough.

~Also on a side note, I honestly don't care about the genre you enjoy, it would merely be your age that raises my eyebrow, not the content.
