I agree here, despite my love for the series, if they don't add at a minimum a new set of doctrines per army, I'm going to be disappointed. While I really enjoy the single player campaign, its only really good for one go, the replay value on the campaign is shit once you get the medals.

I hope they do make it more than just "skins, maps, and one unit per side"

and its really not too much for them to unfuck the net code situation.

its really not too much for them to unfuck the net code situation. Of course you're asking for too much. They rather sell you the same game with a couple of pretty additions for an extra $20+

These are the same people who have sold Dawn of War 4 times.

I suppose it depends on what they add. They're very scant on details right now, but I'm hoping they add more. I can't imagine them adding a ton of new units, so other additions will have to make up for lack of new armies. The direct-fire thing sounds interesting. I also desperately want new maps, there aren't many multiplayer maps, especially large ones. Perhaps they'll even make it easier to make custom maps and distribute them, sort of like StarCraft and WarCraft. I mean there are custom maps for CoH, but as we found out with that d-day map, they're a god damn pain in the ass to play.

As far as net code goes, I shouldn't have to pay for them to unfuck their mistake. I'm curious as to if this expansion will be backwards compatible with the first expansion and the game itself, sort of like how OpFronts is with the original. New units might tip the balance if the other player doesn't have it. Which means it either won't be backwards compatible or the new units will basically be eye candy.

I would like to see this as well. The battles on the Russian lines and in the Pacific were some of the most brutal and ugly fights of the war. I'd like to play those rather than more battles in Western Europe.

I quite like expansion packs really. It means you get more content sooner. Kind of like how episodic gaming is supposed to work *cough* ValvE *cough*. That way you don't have to wait 2-3 years for a new game. With DoW each expansion brought quite a lot of new content into the picture, so did the first CoH expansion. I'm just hoping this new CoH expansion will have more content than they're letting on. I'll wait to see what else they announce before throwing a brick at them ;).

Indeed, I was hoping for the Eastern Front, but hell, I'll buy it if it's under $40.

Hey folks, I just wanted to clear up some of the initial questions about Tales of Valor.

1) No new factions are going to be introduced in Tales of Valor.
2) The new units are new models and textures. New.
3) Direct fire is something that we're featuring in the campaign, and perhaps one of the new multiplayer modes. It's not something you'll be using in a standard multiplayer game.

There ya go. I think that the expansion will have something for everyone, single-player fans and fans of multiplayer.

I just read this from the actual source, a post made by Thunder (http://forums.relicnews.com/showpost.php?p=3243753&postcount=471). It doesn't look like we get new units, just new models for units. And the direct-fire thing may or may not be in multiplayer. So uhh... I'm just going to assume they're adding more yet to be announced stuff, otherwise I don't see the point in buying it.

Wait for the review, but since it's all new models and engine that would mean they're using it as a springboard for more expansions.

Same exact engine I believe. From the speculation on the relic forums, it looks to be both CoH and CoH:OF rolled into one game with a small amount of new content. Sort of like the Gold Pack with a few extras to make it seem worth $30 to those who already have CoH and CoH:OF.

When was the last time an expansion pack came with a new engine, much less a new engine which is backwards compatible with its predecessors? They'll make CoH 2 after DoW 2 I'm sure. That will use the new engine.

A WWI RTS might be kind of boring. It'd be a lot of brutal trench warfare. Then again I could still set up a vickers ;).

A Civil War RTS would be boring. Just play C&C and only produce riflemen, that'd be a good approximation of a Civil War RTS.

There isn't going to be a new faction, but it will offer different game play. It looks like there won't be any base building, just squad based RTS.

If they want to make a different faction, cool, shit, even mix up german units, but the reality is that thea video seems like nothing more than fat girl angle shots of a tiger tank.

My god they spend this time just about doing the same stuff over when they could mabey you know add new factions such as the Japanese and Russians.

Japanese-A mainly infantry side every unit can camoflouge and squads never retreat they have tanks but most wont be stronger then a Stuart.

Russians-Much like the Japanese infantry mainly but later on in there base building they get T34's ect.

I'd prefer just a Eastern Front Add-on, even if it didn't allow all three sides to fight one another. We've already had this discussion but by doing this, or simply making a brand new game they could iron out all the bullshit weaknesses the hinder the Germans, they could make the game much more fun.

I suggest no one here buy it just to show them our dislike for cash-cow tactics.
