I love this game. It blends the gameplay of Oblivion with the fallout theme and universe. Graphics are hella nice, the gameplay is nice (Vats ftw), and the addition of V.A.T.S adds a brutal and exciting twist to the already awesome combat. Maybe its just me, but scavenging for food, ammo, and armor Bioshock style is fun. I was also suprised by the decision making, because I blew up a town called Megaton, and received a hotel suite, and a lot of bad karma. What truly compelled me about this game was that I played it completely in tandem with my friend (xbox live private chat), and he plays the game a COMEPLETELY diffrent way and still gets a cool outcome.

Hmmm, I was a little afraid of this game being like bioshock which bored me.

I'll hold off.

I kept killing the overseer over and over again by reload saving. It's hilarious. It's also funny watching Amata waste people.

I just downloaded it, I personally loved Fallout 2, even though tactics was a miserable addon, glad to see it in action almost a decade later.

Okay, since you guys made a proper thread for it, here is what I said in another post...

Preliminary review of Fallout 3, PC Version:

Sound: Normally quite good. The music is good and adds a lot to the atmosphere. On the other hand spoken lines from characters is terrible. There have been many instances where I'll be talking to a character and the volume of their voice will fluctuate wildly from one line to another. Not only that but sometimes it sounds as if some lines, spoken back to back in game, were recorded months apart. Sometimes the position of the audio changes mid-discussion as well.

Graphics: Very good. The models seem to be a bit rigid at times, but I can easily look past that to see the beautifully rendered world. If it this game lacks anything it's not graphic prowess. The only part I'm not fond of is switching to third person, which seems to be a bit buggy at the moment, camera position wise.

Controls: Definitely designed with the console in mind and the PC as an afterthought. A very simple layout with many levels of nested functionality. Acceptable on a console, somewhat annoying on a PC.

Storyline: This is one area where it gets very high marks. So far I can't find a single negative. The humor is very reminiscent of Fallout 1 and 2 which had a very dark and wonderful humor to it. The storyline is gripping right off the bat with wonderful integration of character creation into the actual game. So far Bethesda hit the nail on the head here.

Gameplay: Aggravating is the best way I can describe the gameplay. I have to confess that I'm very fond of the original Fallout games and I actually liked the turn based gameplay. Bethesda, trying to move this game into the next century, tried making the game a little more friendly to newcomers while (supposedly) making die hard fans feel right at home. First off there's really no turn based gameplay. You can either Rambo your way through a game hitting nothing at all or do pseudo-turn based battles using V.A.T.S. Now in the original games you used an Action Point system for turn based battles. Every action requires a certain number of AP, when you're out of AP your turn is effectively over and your opponent now does the same. After your opponent finishes your turn starts again and your AP is recovered. Rinse and repeat.

Now let's contrast this with Fallout 3's system. You still have AP. However, your opponent never has a "turn" per se. You will enter into V.A.T.S. and select what actions to take, such as shoot the torso twice and the head once. After you have ran out of AP, or decide to conserve some AP, you execute your enqueued attacks. Afterwords you're dropped out of this turn based mode and back into real time battles. Your AP will slowly recover as you either duck for cover or waste a clip of ammo and conveniently hit nothing but wall. Once your AP has recovered enough you're free to enter back into V.A.T.S. So rather than the promised best of both worlds, we get the worst of both worlds. A poorly designed real time system where you have the option of aiming your gun, which isn't all that helpful, or a poorly designed turn based system which isn't even turn based.

Overall: I'm still playing the game and I'm sure my opinions will change on certain aspects. The storyline feels like a proper Fallout sequel storyline, but the gameplay leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We'll see how it goes.

Not much has changed so far, I'll make a final review at some point.

It's a very nice game overall.

The ONLY thing about the game that pissed me off the most was that I became a pedicurist for the G.O.A.T. exam :cursing:

Astrum, the game is dependent on VATS and using the cross-hair is awful. It's not supposed to be the equivalent of turns and once I got used to it it's actually quite an innovative thing. I thought at first I'd play it with the cross-hair and use VATS every now and then but I can't find any fault with the system.

Can you really honestly say you want Fallout 3 to have a turn combat system, given the fact it's an FPS and it's not 20th century isometrical?

I know the game is dependent upon VATS, so why the hell give you the option of "aiming" manually? You hit fuck all without VATS. It's still a quasi turn based system, the only difference is your opponents get infinite turns, and you're limited by your AP and awful real time aiming system. Yeah, it's innovative, but innovation does not imply that it's inherently better.

I see nothing wrong with both a proper real time system for the console tards, and a turn based system for those of us who enjoy it. I also don't see a problem with a game being isometric. Last I checked Diablo 3 is isometric, so I'm pretty sure it's not some outdated technology, merely a choice in camera rendering (as opposed to perspective or orthographic projection). However, Bethesda decided to go with the First/Third person perspective projection. I don't have a problem with that. And obviously a turn based system works since VATS is a partial turn based system, with action points and everything! So yeah, I would like a turn based system. They already implemented half of it with VATS, so why is it so hard to finish the fucking job? Oh wait, then it wouldn't be "innovative".

I'm going to wager that you've never actually played the original Fallout games. It seems that people who did have various problems with the game, and those who did not think it's the best thing since tits.

That's a painfully obvious question; sorry eversman, but if you don'r buy the PC version, I will find and kill you.

Potentially more pretty on PC, definitely designed for console though.

Yup, the controls are simpler than the PC version and that's the only plus side.

The PC version looks prettier though.

Actually the controls aren't really different for the PC. There's a small number of buttons to use, everything you could possible want is in some nested menu somewhere. This is why I said it was designed with the console in mind, they definitely didn't take advantage of a bigger potential keymap on the PC.

Might as well get it for the system that it was designed for tbh.

Then play (http://www.gog.com/en/page/fallout_promotion/) them! Bethesda didn't do a bad job on the sequel tbh. It's actually pretty good.

It's cross platform, although it was probably designed with the console in mind.

Its far from oblivion with guns. If you actually pay attention to whats been going on many reviews had proven fallout 3 is a very different game not because of the guns.

As of right now, im level 16, and I look so damn badass. Im using Tesla armor, a type of power armor used by the enclave for energy weapons, along with the title ''Very evil Urban Superstition''. I have a hotel suite in Tenpenny tower, thanks to my wtfboom moment...sry megaton, maybe next playthrough. I also enjoy my canine companion dogmeat. I am a complete jerk in this game. First, I bought a home lab from this lady. Then, I put on a stealth boy, went behind her, took her out in one shot, got the key to her safe, took my money back (and then some) and thanks to my scrounger perk, got like shitloads of ammo, and then from that point on, I made my stand against the Tenpenny security. After my gun was blazing, I went up to my hotel room, cured my addictions, and took the Capitol wasteland head on.

The game was good, not the greatest RPG ever. But good.

I love having epic limb shooting moments though. I kind of found it's main story really short though depending on the level of difficulty and how you spent your time.

I had to stop playing.

Every time I'd close my eyes when I'd try to sleep I'd enter my own weird post apocolyptic world and it was making me waaay too anxious and freaked out. Slept terribly last night. So I gotta quit playing for a few days.

woot persona 4 :D

i love this game.. but any1 deciding between console and PC ill tell you right now to get pc.

i have it for ps3 and pc, and even if you dont consider the pc's ability to have higher resolution.. there's several glitches that you can only fix with a pc.. such as major npc's disappearing.
