Just got myself a WD 640 GB hard drive and I realized that it doesn't use the same power connector as my older WD sata drive. I am wondering what cables I need for it (heard it uses the newer sata ones, but have no clue on what they are.)

Here's a photo of the back :

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have any PC shops nearby that you could go to for help?

Just Bestbuy, and I know they'll jack up the prices to put it in, I just need to know what cable I need.

I'm not good with hardware, and I'm not sure what the older connector is. I'm assuming the old one is a 4-pin. Someone more hardware friendly chime in here and see if this is indeed what he's looking for?

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I'm wrong. But I think this is the kind of thing you'd be looking for anyway.

This looks better than the first links I put up.

Blue if you have a WD SATA Secure connect cable
Green if you have a standard SATA cable

Red is supposed to be where the power is, but I don't remember if that's what it looked like. I'm pretty sure there's supposed to be pins.

Don't plug anything into the non-highlighted pins.

Yeah, there were supposed to be pins in the red part, but I was told that Western Digital was no longer using that type of power connector and was using a different one.

You're right. I think it runs off of SATA power, which is the longer connector on the left. A WD Secure connect cable should do it or you can have them connected individually.

It should just run on a SATA plugs, I've never heard of one needing more.

wth are you talking about
sata power plugs
4pin molex??
just hotwire the damn thing

~but yes it is a sata power plug, im sure you could have figured that out just by looking at the power cord and the drive, or by reading the instructions, etc etc, but if this turned out to be a bit hard for you to understand without resorting to asking, you may want to lay off the pc gadgets and just take it to best buy and get overcharged maybe by three-fold or more

No need to be a dick about it, I bought this drive as OEM from newegg so it didn't come with anything.
