Require a certain number of posts before applying for admin

I think we need to set a minimum post requirement before a supporter may apply for admin. I'd recommend it being somewhere between 30-40 posts.

I read through new supporters making apps, and often they have low post counts, and many responses they get are "lol 0 posts" and "Not active enough on forums". I think we need this requirement to help drive into their heads that part of being an admin is to be active on forums.

I'm not asking them to be as active as someone like I, but its important that they know their way around the forums and how to use them, as well as being active to keep abrest of new rules and policies.

I know this may mean some supporters will spam forums with useless stuff, but that happens now anyway, and such spamming will be pretty obvious and count against them.

30-40 is far too low for my liking. Isn't regular like a hundred? Why would the admin post count requirement be lower than that of a regular's?

I can't bear seeing people post an admin application and having 0 posts; it's not on. I'd say move the requirement up to about 150+, but even then it will just lead people to spam and be a general nuisance. The irony of this is that I think we should leave it how it is. People who apply with 0 posts almost never get accepted/taken seriously, and making it an official requirement will do nothing but promote spam.

Well forum activity is already an "official requirement", but its not obvious to new supporters what this entails.

We have the "wait 2 weeks till you can apply" rule, why can't we have the post count requirement to show that they have to be active in the community forums to get admin. Having a post count requirement dissuades them from early applications, which waste our time and theirs, and the forum activity helps them get to know our players.

As to my suggestion being lower than the reg's requirement, its to prevent stagnation in applications. Having it too high will dissuade new players who want admin from trying.

Sounds like a good idea. 50 posts is my suggestion.

Just posting in the forums educates you, even if you try to spam your way through 100+ posts you'll pick up stuff along the way (as well as some constructive criticism...)

I think 150 posts is good, supporters have to wait a week already, and most of the time if they're new it'll be another 2 weeks anyway......if they're active on the forums they should have enough by then (so might as well apply this idea)

I think 150 posts would be good and if not 150 maybe 75 post counts.

Oooo, excellent, I love forum spammers.

A proposal for the issue you're trying to solve requires more thought than just giving them a post count requirement.

Then why not give a solution? What more is there needed you think?

In my mind there's no real solution to weeding out people who apply for Admin, the result of trying to do so has never worked in the past, I don't see why giving them a post requirement would change anything.

People try and apply for Admin before their two weeks supporter are achieved, and when they have 0 posts, I doubt that will change.

In reality, requiring a decent post count would slow the number of applications, but it wouldn't really weed out anyone. If you take Masterben for example, he was up to like 12 posts a day when he was trying for HG, and everyone constantly complained about his spamming.

Giving them a post count seems to cause them to make more less notable or intelligent posts because they're more focused on just getting +1.

Though, I'm not completely against requiring a certain amount of posts, it would just be helpful if more stupid spam posts got deleted to avoid them from going 0 to 100 in 6.2 days.

If more posts like that were deleted, then it would be a lot easier to incorporate post requirements for different things. But, AO's have too much work to be expected to delete all the random +1 spam.

One thing I think would be nice to see is a post requirement for even viewing the Admin Application, to stop Supporters from posting support in there just for +1 as well as to try and get votes. Perhaps, if it was possible, a different post count for different groups. Admins could always see it, Supporters need the same amount of posts required to get Admin to view the Admin Application section.

I think it wouldn't be too bad even if there was some requirement HG's and lower could meet (not necessarily a post count) or some kind of vote to allow certain members to post in Admin Applications after they can view the thread. It'd be nice to get their input as well once again like in the old system, but still keep out the assholes/spammers in those ranks from the threads.

I totally agree with this part. There has been too many times that an application turned into a voting campaign..
And it's a good thing that all the members can have a vote too. They also play with the applicants and do get opinions about them. They see/notice things that we don't.

And no worries, we know you've got other things to do
