    AO's & Ban Appeals

Hey! My last fail suggestion ever! :P

I notice that some of the AO's that ban people, are then declining the appeals made against their bans...

In my opinion that is a bit :s - Surely if the ban is being appealed, in which the AO banned. That AO shouldn't be the one to review it?

Because the answer will generally be rejected, otherwise that AO wouldn't of banned in the first place?

MY suggestion is that NO AO can review his/her own bans that people are appealing against.
There are enough AO's & BOD's to share it out.

The AO that made the ban should post their input like SA's have to. Then it should be reviewed by an AO/BOD not connected to the ban.

    what ya think :P
I'm not targetting anyone either... just felt it would make more sense...

[I didn't know how to quite word the poll Question. So if you think that a different AO should have to review their ban, then click NO. If you think it is fine for the AO involved to review the ban click Yes.]

I don't think I had any thing like this happen when I was an AO, maybe a player complaint that I banned appealed but I can't recall anything specific. But if it was me in that situation, I would leave it for another AO to handle. I'd put my two cents in on it, but then walk away from it and let another AO rule on it. Its not really anythign that was set in stone but it is how I'd like things to work....its like giving the SA's power to work their own appeals and you know half of them wouldn't work it the right way.

This is obviously aimed at the incident last night considering 3 players in the surf server who's appeal I rejected. Let me give you the low down on what went on and the reason why I rejected the bans I made myself. All 3 were acting like tools, making extremely annoying noises with their mics (imagine 3 people shouting "mine mine mine" over and over), at which point I told them to knock it off (warning 1). The map changes, they all continue to do it, so they all get muted (warning 2). They two of them then decide to change their names to some variation of the word "mine". At which point I decided I had given them enough warnings and banned both of them, 5 minutes later the third one decides he wants to be banned as well and also changes his name to "mine" (incidentally that's AlphaBoT, an SG.Mem). As a team they all decided to appeal the ban, which I thought should stick as I had given them all fair warnings yet they continue to act like idiots. On top of all of that, two of them (Alpha & Boom) decide to evade their bans by going on different steam accounts which was why I increased both bans to 3 days.

I'd like to think my judgement is enough that I don't need another person in the same position as myself to review a ban I made. You think this ban was unfair? I don't.
    I'm back. Tell a friend.

also if the rejection is unjust, the BDs can overstep it, just like AOs can overstep CA/SA bans

And not a single fuck was given this day

Good idea. Its a good check and balance on the system.

I discussed this with Daze. It wasn't directed just to his bans. I was flicking through simply just to see if anyone was appealing against any bans I have placed.

As for the bans that Daze done.. fair enough they was warned, therefore eventually were punished.

I wasn't trying to say that any of the bans were unjust, nor was I trying to say that anyone judgement should be doubted. It was simply from the point of view of those that are banned..

If someone is banned for say Ross and then ross also refuses their appeal... it looks a bit obvious that it would be rejected as ross is the person who banned. So as for the appeal it would just look a bit better to show that it isn't just 1 admins / Ao's opinion that the ban is fair.

I see how this might be good for SA bans, but I think that all the AO's can be trusted to make the right decisions, we all know the rules if we were suspected of making unjust bans I don't think we would be AO's at all.

However there is always going to be a level of unfairness in it, because the people appealing do so because they feel the ban the admin made against them was unfair, for that same admin to then judge themselves is possibly unfair.

Two sides to it, but I guess that leaving these bans to another AO is probably the best thing.

I think this is a good idea. We have a very good group of AO's, so I don't this this is about their honesty, its about maintaining/increasing the validity and consistency of ban appeal protocol.

Checks and balances are just as much about our members trusting our hierarchy of procedures, as it is about keeping someone from gaining to much power.

Honestly, All of our Administrative Officers are well known, highly respected, and trusted and have been proven non-Abusive.

If Administrative Officers bans player, it's most likely for good reason. If you feel Administrative Officer is abusing his Powers by rejecting his/her own ban, PM them.
